Both myself and Metal Hammer head-honcho Alexander Milas are two fairly grounded guys who were transformed into giggling teenagers yesterday in pant-wetting anticipation of Metallica’s smallest UK show in years last night at Radio 1 and while it was quite loose and very much a warm-up for tonights O2 extravaganza, this will remain one to tell the grandkids about.

While we don’t want to spoil anything for you ahead of tonights show, they played five new tracks from ‘Death Magnetic’, all of which were fairly tight and, in the case of ’That Was Just Your Life’, played at about 800mph. It has to be said that it’s easy to forget what a killer tune ‘Until It Sleeps’ is.

If you’re coming to tonights show, don’t forget to come and throw down with Metal Hammer and Guitar Hero from 2pm in the Indigo2 and head back their after the show for even more shenanigans and Gill spinning some top tunes. I’ll be in the DJ booth from 4pm-6pm and James Isaacs will be getting wiggady-wiggady-whack from 6pm-8pm.
