Blog: Airbourne In London
The early edition of today’s Hammer blog is brought to you by a slightly hungover and incredibly excitable Terry Bezer:
This morning’s Metal Hammer Blog comes to you slightly worse for wear as last night saw Airbourne absolutely lay waste to the London Astoria.
Honestly, if there’s a band out there right now that provide more excitement and more bang for your buck right now, the Blog is yet to see them. It’s the sort of experience that makes you forget where you are and if you’re supposed to act something like an adult. Airbourne are the band that take you back to being 15 again and plaster a grin on your face that refuses to leave for the duration of their set.
As awesome as Airbourne were last night, it’d be rude to not give a few words of mention to The Stone Gods. I’ve never been much of a fan of their record as it lacked enough crunch and power to really hit the spot but live with a beefed up sound and Richie Edwards blooming into one of the best frontmen in Britain, they were completely killer.
A top night all-round and if you get the chance to catch either of these two bands live, you’d have to be absolutely crackers to miss it.

Saw Airbourne last night (27th) at the London Astoria and they were outstanding! Stone Gods were also superb. Best gig i have seen in ages and ages.
Also saw AIRBOURNE last night at the astoria…….haven’t seen a band so fresh and energetic in years…..absolutely brilliant…..great set and great crowd….hungover & tired at work today but still buzzing……..stone gods were also excellent…..Dan Hawkins is quality!
saw them earlier this month and they were fukin amazin. same with stone gods n sound and fury.
one of the best gigs ive ever been to!
Saw Airbourne Nov 5th at Birmingham Academy met Joel after the gig – fantastic night or pure rock n roll, crowd went nuts!! Unbelievable energy considering they’ve done 250+ gigs this year.
I watched Airbourne for the first time at the Astoria on thursday (27th) I was jumping in and around the mosh pit!! for the whole set i was knackered afterwards but i aint felt that good in ages what a buzz!!!
What a shame they are pulling the Astoria down it was if it was built for Airbourne Hot & Sweaty!!!!
I went on the 28th,I went in with my eyes open,I went in knowing exactly what i was going to get and did Airbourne deliver…you bet they did.For atmosphere you had to be in the stalls. Both supports especially the Stone Gods gave rousing performances both cranked up the anti for what was to come.
Now i know the influences of Airbourne(i am 45) they’re plain to see and plainly obvious to the ear but knowing this you just have to go with it 100%.With songs so avertly sexual(just like the DC boys)and also fuelled with ample supplies of intoxicating liquour the band and the crowd (especially in stalls) took the term enjoyment to the full. The guys on stage ran, jumped and drank with such vigour that you can only imagine thats what Angus and the guys were like in the bad old days. This wasn’t metal, this this was Rock N’Roll …full blown, no frills, in yer face.It even got this old rocker jigging around dancing and struttin…(suprised i could walk afterward….lol).I feel kinda of embarrassed how i ever forgot to enjoy myself so much…lol
Was at the Astoria airborne gig. Best gig in ages and ages.
