I’m quite surprised to see Traced In Air at 22, was expecting it to be higher up.
I’m thinking the top ten will contain
Opeth – Watershed
Amon Amarth – Twighlight of the Thunder God
Metallica – Death Magnetic
Melvins!!
Still dont hear wats so great about 36 Crazyfists? Maybe i’ll check that album out.
Agree with those being in top ten Barry. Opeth and Amon Amarth i think will b for sure.
Are you messing? Cynic at 22? surely its, one of, if not the best album of the year? I bet Metallica and Trivium will be in the top five though. Shogun was one of the worst albums i have heard in a long time and as for Metallica, Death Magnetic was just alright, nothing special. Traced in Air was a breath of fresh air in a scene full of death and metalcore. I think the cynic guys have made a great modern masterpiece with this album and you guys have fucked it up with the whole ‘tallica and Trivium worship.
I have to say, 36 Crazyfists newest album was’nt that great. It’s alright but it just seemed such a far cry from the last album. Boring and dull…
Cynic’s new album is just incredible. Such an adventure when you press play with that beauty! Should of been at (13)
*Barry – Good idea of the top 10. Opeth should definatly be up there. Unsure about Amon Amarth, they would be somewhere like (12).
*Kris – Each their own i guess, although to me ‘Shogun’ was a breakout success for Trivium….
Much more beefier than ‘Ascendancy’ or ‘The Crusade’.
We’ll just have to wait and see…
Top 3 albums:
Opeth – Watershed
Metallica – Death Magnetic
Trivium – Shogun
Bands in top 10 (if they’ve already placed i apologise for not paying too much attention).
Metallica
Opeth
Trivium
Disturbed
Children of Bodom
Slipknot
The new 36 Crazyfists album is the best in my opinion! Certainly their heaviest I reckon.
But I must agree about the comments regarding Cynic, this album’s been getting nothing but praise, I would’ve thought it would make the list higher up?
Been meaning to check out The Melvins, but they have so many fucking albums it’s hard to know where to start! :S
I reckon amongst the top 10 albums will be:
Gojira – The Way Of All Flesh.
Opeth – Watershed.
Slipknot – All Hope Is Gone.
Trivium – Shogun.
Children Of Bodom – Blooddrunk.
Cradle Of Filth – Godspeed On The Devil’s Thunder.
Metallica – Death Magnetic.
Cavalera Conspiracy – Inflikted.
Disturbed – Indestructable.
Biomechanical – Cannibalised.
My shout for top 10 entries
Metallica
Slipknot
Opeth
Sylosis (SUCH a good fuckin cd!)
Testament
Children of Bodom
surely the likes of gojira & meshuggah should be around the top ten mark both there albums are hugely impressive an way better than metallica an trivium threw out this year … just my opinion tho
cough. Slipknot…
Hmmmm interesting one.
I hoped 36 CF would of got abit higher to be honest, in the teens at least.
I don’t think Opeth’s new album should be as high as some people are putting it either. I just couldn’t get into this one.
Amon Amarth I am hoping to be in the top 10 and Trivium’s Shogun to be at least 15 aaaaand Children of Bodom should definatly be up there in the 10s if not top 5.
Slipknot should be in top 10 all the way, Trivium surley should be to
sorry to burst people’s bubbles but death magnetic is number 1 (and unfairly i think) the way the scoring works this year is a bit unfair really for me the best albums were Gojira, Amon Amarth, Testament and Opeth. OH and AC/DC were third despite it being the same as every other AC/DC album
I’d love to see Misery Signals, “Controller” on this list cos that’s just an incredible album. Again…apologies if it’s already been featured.
I hope there’ll be some surprises in the top 10. If I think back to last few years’ top album…they’re always mainstream metal releases (good mind you…but just a bit predictable)!
Come on, i’m sure nothing on Slipknots new album would be made welcome at a Slipknot gig… Maybe ‘Butchers Hook’, ‘Psycosocial’ and ‘All Hope is Gone’ would.
Worst album this year…
Slipknot’s last album was a complete let down.
there are some songs there that only could be made by a band like The Killers.
It wasn’t worth 4 years Of Waiting.
but i dig sulfur , psychosocial AND definitely Gematria.
I Love Corey But Getting Pissed Off About his wife is really not slipknot’s material.
Slipknot…most disappointing album this year. Not worst.
Forget Metallica, Trivium, Slipknot, Children of Bodom and goddamned Disturbed(really?!)
Gojira, Torche, 5ive, These Arms Are Snakes, Zozobra, Clouds, Opeth, Capricorns, Burst, Intronaut, Meshuggah, Between the Buried and Me (the Live album) and Cynic released the best albums this year.
No question.
