I'm thinking of purchasing the following geeeeetar:
I was wondering what your experience of active pickups are, are there any things i should look out for? How long do the batteries last? My main worry is the batteries will run out when i'm half way through a gig so how do you know they are ready for replacing. I have playyed the guitar and it sounded awesome but just need your opinions.
Most of my guitars have active EMG's in them. They have their own particular sound.
They naturally compress your strings so that they are at the same volume, handy if you use custom sets etc, but sometimes you can lose some of the dynamic. Hitting strings harder/softer has less of an effect, if you were to be real picky. However, sustain is greatly improved in a lot of cases.
A decent duracell battery can last up to 1000 playing hours with EMGs. It's easy to notice when they are dying because the volume vastly suffers when it's running dry. It's totally obvious in fact and the tone gets sapped away.
Purpose guitars have an easily removable cover to replace batteries quick and easy too, so it need not totally ruin a gig if you get caught short. Leaving the leads plugged in also canes the battery, so always unplug if you are leaving the axe for the night or whatever.
nice one mate, thanks for the advice I shall carry on saving my pennies then so I can order one
