Yes, concern for the music looms very large in heavy metal, but is it just about that? Are you
serious? Ok, in the case of Neurosis yes. In the case of Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Cathedral, Immortal, and the list goes on... big no. Lyrically, thematically, theatrically, the vast majority of metal save for the most artistically purist and occasionally pretentious acts out there frolics in things that fall outside of a pure concern for just the music. Manowar may be a very condensed and distilled form of that, but that's a big part of what metal's all about.
