Yes, Zep are the better musicians, have the better songs but live are not the sort of band you wanna bang your head too! Probably good with a joint and an Afghan rug!
I think what you have described there, pretty much covers what Kiss were about.
Big, Brash and Bright are all visual things, and I feel that's all they had. Their music never lived up to the actual 'show' they put on.
And it didn't matter how Loud it was, it was the same stuff.... Just played Loud.
These days if you saw Zep live I seriously believe all their self-indulgent fifteen minute jams would send most people to sleep! Over two hours of jams? Hmmmm?!
At least Kiss had four minute songs.
Don't dismiss the songs of Kiss, Parasite, Watching You, I stole your love and even Rocket Ride are some of the finest riffs you are likely to hear!
I know what you are saying. the spectical of Kiss outways the music but the music, imo, is underated!
