Maralyn Manson for shame
Ok so first off I receive, well my parents anyway, the newest metal hammer as soon as it's out. It's usually a great read and very insightful about other bands, albums etc etc.
However the most recent with the guy Maralyn Manson on the front was a total travesty. Of course growing up I heard and liked some of his stuff however as it says he's been gone for a long time. Personally I think he should have stayed as you say 'dead'. To shove on the front cover how he loves drugs and will never stop doing them because he loves them....what's wrong with you guys?
Metal isn't about these things, among many people metal is considered a horrible waste of music that is about death and drugs and such things. If I wanted to prove them right I would show them the latest metal hammer and say 'here we are my good sir, everything that you've been saying against my music genre is actually true' why have you done this? Who decided it was time for this complete dick of a guy and ass of a role model to be shoved onto the front cover of your very reputable magazine?
Drugs for one are always a dodgy subject at the best of times, and many great metal artists have stories to tell about drugs, most however, are of them kicking the habit. Take Dave Mustaine for example, once a drug dealer and a very low kind of guy, he managed to stop and become of all thing a Christian! Now that's a story: Drugs are bad, look what they do. You can stop and become great like Dave (not that I think becoming a Christian is great, it's just that anything is better than being a drug addict)
So why are you publicising the fact that they are good? He says he wont stop doing them? Then he's got no place to be on the front cover of your magazine! His music isn't really awesome, if he actually manages to do another album I wonder how many will actually purchase it? As if drugs are in some way associated with metal beforehand was somewhat to do with it's reputation and lyrics etc, after shoving 'I love drugs' onto your magazine and then still publishing and even holding this guy in high regard is a disgrace, to metal, to metal hammer and to me.
He says that he's failed his fans and indeed he has. He should remain a sort of lost star, he was big for a while and then he vanished. I don't think anyone really missed him much, I know I didn't, but to bring him back in this kinda of light is just too much, your magazine has some of the greatest bands and artists featured in it and then you slander all of them by putting that thing on there as well? Sharing the fact that they've been on a front cover of metal hammer would surely be seen as a bad thing, no?
In any case I am very into all things metal but drugs aren't metal. If you at metal hammer believe they are then I have got the wrong guys and will stop reading your magazine and indeed probably close my account on here. I feel ashamed to ally myself with something that allies itself with something as wrong as everything Maralyn Manson has said, he is in no way metal and should in no way be associated with it.
I hope that you read this in good faith and read it all, I also hope you see where I'm coming from. If you don't then please tell me, It'd be great to actually talk to someone about this atrocity.
