I'll be honest, I've not heard much, but the few bits I have heard have been awful. And it's not that I'm against it becasue it's Christian - some of Johnny Cash's best work is all about God, and Praise & Blame by Tom Jones is a phenomenal album. Again, largely songs about God, but it just seems that the Christian metal bands I've heard just can't actually write good songs..
I'm from the 'not believing it's wank' (ie Christianity) camp and I still don't think it's very convincing - I just don't think the music suits the message. Mind you, it's a million times better than the toss that's served up at some of the big Christian gatherings - airy-fairy faux country stuff that's just lapped up by the converted, and which I walked out of when I attended one of those bashes. God (!) help Comfortably Numb if he was teleported into one of these events, I think he'd spontaneously combust.
Now, a biit of Christian-message soul, that's another bag o mashins entirely, Rev Al and Aretha obviously, but also people like Irma Thomas, and a great UK guy from more recently, Noel Robinson and Nu Image, one of his gigs from the 90's is in my top ten all-time gigs.
