I dunno. I think if you're in charge of guarding one of the most likely terrorist targets in the country, you don't want to be opening the main security gates unless it's absolutely necessary.
I could certainly understand that a cyclist, who could go through a side gate, isn't a valid reason for opening said gates.
What the issue is really, is that it's the MP who's a jumped up wanker with an overwhelming sense of entitlement. I'd personally be happy if he lost his job over this.
