Its just very unpleasant.
You never feel safe.
My friend's from Palestine, and says he feels safer walking around there than here , and I've lived in Northern Ireland which has a bit of a reputation for unpleasantness, but it never felt as threatening as here. And yeah, Blackpool sucked too, but the level of fear was manageable, it was just common sense "watch out for the violent drunken stag parties" and don't go in the dark places alone. But here I feel like every toddler and old woman is carrying a knife.
I think it doesn't help that I'm so close to Moss Side. The people all just have cruel, mean faces and every one of them looks like they want to kill you.
People had their stuff nicked from my building, people broke into the building, people from my building got mugged on nights out, and it all seems so threatening when you think about it. But these problems don't matter so much when I'm at Uni or whatever. Just minor inconveniences. I know it actually isn't as bad as it seems, but its still unpleasant enough to warrant a small whinge from the safety and comfort of Oxford.
When I got back to my room last night, the fucking thing had flooded over Christmas. Spent all night moving to a different room, cleaning, and throwing out uni supplies that are now mouldy and useless.
