I don't understand the logic in that, surely if Reign in Blood is still metal by your definition, then Amon Amarth are still metal.
I could understand if you had said Maiden and Priest were metal but Slayer weren't.
But it seems to me that if a song like Jesus Saves or Epidemic is metal than so is For the Stabwounds in our Backs or Death In Fire.
I understand the need for sub genres, if you are saying Maiden and Priest are metal, and Amon Amarth are melodic death metal, but by the admission that sub genres exist you remove Slayer from metal and place them in Thrash Metal, and the same goes for Rust In Peace.
I can understand what Tom Araya is saying, though. Devildriver is about as extreme as I get, vocally speaking. Besides, I just dont see the appeal in songs about Viking stuff, It's just not my thing. As for Black Metal, C'mon! I read the Black Metal magazine once, I nearly pissed myself laughing, all these guys with their faces painted, trying to be more evil than anyone else?? Evil isn't found in Rock or Metal, if they wanted to be evil, they'd go out and commit mass murder or torture some people. They're posers, simple as. It's just a dark form of glam metal in my eyes.
