‘The Big Four’ To Tour? Kerry King Says It Could Happen!
Kerry King tells us that he has heard Lars Ulrich is plotting the metal tour to end all metal tours!
Could the tour of a lifetime be about to happen? Kerry King seems to think so!
In what could be one of the most exciting pieces of news of the year, Kerry King yesterday revealed to Metal Hammer that he has heard through the grapevine that Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax.
Should this tour materialise, this would be the first time that the big four have toured together as part of the same bill. Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax were joined by opening act Alice In Chains for the US Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while Metallica and Megadeth last shared a UK stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.
We asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that Slayer are about to embark on with Megadeth in Australia and Canada to our shores.
“I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this Megadeth stuff started happening,” said King. “They’re going to Australia with us, they’re going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because shit, we didn’t even consider playing with those guys since 1990.”
So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the big four?
“I’ve heard people referencing Lars,” says King. “I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than Anthrax and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me.” Read Scott Ian’s response here!

This sounds very, very cool.
However, no Kerry you don’t need to bring some groove band out with the big four. If they do it I think it would only be special if it was just them. But If they must have support then make it obscure thrash bands like Toxik and Anacrusis, expose awesome bands like that to people who’ll never bother to listen to them otherwise.

Seeing as Metallica have the right to name who is playing at Sonisphere for the next three years, there is a lot more to this than people think. This could be the line up for next year and make Sonisphere a realistic alternative to Download.

I think this would suck. Limit Megadeth’s time to play a lot. They get like what 5-6 songs. I’d rather see Slayer/Megadeth do their own thing in the states. 2 of the better bands and no Metallica in sight. Death Magnetic was pure crap and I think I’m the only one on earth that hated it even though it was completely unlistenable. Plus Anthrax has lost a lot of fans, they might get back some with Bush coming back but their shakiness these past few years is completely laughable.

I was at the 1990 Clash Of The Titans show at Wembley Arena,and only went there to see Slayer.I know Suicidal Tendancies,Megadeth & Testament were on the bill but the only band that mattered to me was Slayer bar none.
They recorded the War Ensemble video that night and after the first take there was a pause in the show and then Tom told us they had to do it again and the crowd
told him to FOAD,to which the reply was `You bunch of faggots` and went straight into War Ensemble again:-)
For what it`s worth,i think if there is a 2009/2010 version of COTT the lineup should be,Testament, Exodus,Megadeth and Slayer headlining.I would also liked to add Metal Church but alas they are calling it a day,shame they never reached the heights they deserved.RIP David Wayne.

Ps-i remember in the queue for the COTT tickets in 1990,the old lady at the kiosk asked what the concert was,and i told her `A great night of USA metal` and she looked very scared.Who knows,maybe she went on the night to feed her curiosity,lol!

Anthrax were superb at Sonisphere so can’t really be left off (much though I like Machinehead).
Inventing your own big 4 doesn’t really leave it as the big 4 any more does it…
Pretty sure it won’t be the Sonisphere 2010 line up as I am sure I read/heard that Metallica won’t be playing.

To echo some of the other comments posted, the Big Four is SUPPOSED to be Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica and Anthrax. If a tour happens (by some miracle) then it should be these four bands, not a selection of 3 plus one random one.
Fingers crossed for this tour to actually go ahead, I will cream my pantaloons if it happens!!

The bands should just roll dice, draw cards, play bingo, draw lots, or do something that is completely up to luck to determine the band order OFFICIALLY if this tour happened. And they’d all have to agree on the luck and sign something and have witnesses, that way none can whine or complain about who opens for who and just say, well that’s the luck of the draw. Though I’d hope that Megadeth would have lady luck on their side to headline
. Unless… each band had EQUAL time, then I’d want them to go first in case I want to leave early for certain others.
