We’re all feeling particularly happy about metal owning indie at the moment so here are our 11 reasons why Iron Maiden deserved their Brit Award.
1. The award was for Best British Live Act. They ARE the best British live act.
2. Twickenham. Moonchild was enough to make the toughest headcase blub into his pint.
3. The Brits committee are paid to represent the best of British music and that’s truer of ‘Maiden than it is of anyone operating in British music. Shame it took them 34 years to realise it before finally nominating them, eh?
4. Churchill’s Speech. Churchill’s fucking speech! If you don’t get chills from it, you’re not human. There’s not a better live intro tape going.
5. Bruce Dickinson’s energy. I’m a 25 year old who goes to the gym regularly and he knackers me out just watching him. Hats off!
6. The ‘Harris guitar/machine gun with foot on the monitor’ routine. If you’re a bass player, you’ll have done this at least at one point in your life. if you’re not a bass player, you’ll have done air-guitar like it countless times.
7. The ‘Somewhere In Time’ tour. Unbelievable scenes. Woah, Leslie. Aye Carumba. Holy shitballs. Shall we keep going or have you got the hint?
8. Eddie. Imagine a big, evil looking zombie c*nt popping out behind Chris pissing Martin? Didn’t think so.
9. Iron Maiden are as relevant in 2009 as they’ve ever been. To be in your fourth decade as a band and to achieve that is something that cannot measured.
10. Because the finest metal act and one of the greatest bands that the world has ever seen should be recognised in their own bloody country. the rest of the world have got it for long enough, it’s about time the crusty fuckers that dish out mainstream awards realised this.
11. Because they’re Iron fucking Maiden.

Yeahhhh!! I remember them back in Leytonstone- still going strong. Very little mention of them in the national press. The Sun had 3 pages on all that other shite at the Brits and Maiden got a tiny mention- oi people the live performance separates the musicians from the dross!!!!

I have been a devoted Iron Maiden fan for 23 years straight. Ever since the original “Somewhere In Time” tape first came out in 1986.
I have been devoted to this band in the good days and in the bad days.
What does Coldplay, a cheap copycat band of U2 that just came out recently, have to stack against a WorldWide Massive Power House Heavy Hard Rock band/borderline Power Metal band that has been together for 30 years?!!!!!!
If it wasn’t for Iron Maiden, there would be no such a thing as Power Metal.
Iron Maiden laid the foundations of what would become Power Metal. Not to mention the high excellence for all Rock concerts, example: “World Slavery Tour” back in 1984-1985. “LiVe AfTeR DeAtH” concert CD.

OK OK i’ll agree its was long overdue, but Maiden get one Brit award in a career spanning over 30 years (they started in 1976). Maiden were the biggest metal band of the 80’s and still are to this day.
Give it back and let someone who wont be around next year have it.

I saw them live for the first time in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 13 of 2008, I’m 29 years old, their music reaches deep inside, i’ve never seen a better live act in my life. Very strong melodies, powerful lyrics and optimum energy, they are timeless group of artists, their legacy will withstand the test of time, at their age they are still creating beautiful music(Their album A Matter of Life and Death is a masterpiece) as important as 30 years ago when they started. Que viva la DAMA DE HIERRO!!

Absolutely brilliant. I am a fan from South Africa, been into Maiden since Killers in 1981. I was lucky enough to see them at Twickenham. The best 2 hours of my life. Maiden are just the best Metal band in the world…
absolutely fabulous…..bot 3 years ago one of my friend told me that iron maiden might come to india…i just laughed and told em iron maiden might not know theres a country called india…..but its been 3 straight years they played in india… as a fan of maiden for the past 24 years its been a dream come true for me….im still living in a dream i guess…15th feb is still flashing on my mind…..maiden deserved this award…and they deserved more than this….up the irons!!! cheers

hey ppl, I completely agree with all of you, Iron Maiden are the best bunch of musicians that we can imagine…I´m 18 and I travelled across Europe to seen them 6 times live and now, it is so stunning to see them getting respect they deserve so much, I´ve never seen any other band playing such amazing shows…The best band ever! up the irons for ever!

Coming from Singapore, you don’t get to hear or read about metal or Iron Maiden unless you serve the Internet. Ever since I was a 13 year old schoolboy, Iron maiden captivated me when I first saw them on a video tape Live @ Rainbow. I’ve been a rivet head ever since.

I didn’t get to Twickenham, unfortunately…
But I was at Graspop, along with 55k or so others!! It was absolutely amazing, last night of Graspop, whilst I gave myself a sore throat after screaming out along with each number as they came out, nowhere near tuneful by the end, but still as loud as I bloody well could!
It’s an experience that just can’t be matched anywhere else! Wow!
By why the hell did it have to wait until after I’d left England to live in Belgium? Bloody timing, so I couldn’t watch it on TV as they received their award…
I come from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I’m a big fan, but only recently I had a chance to see these GIANTS live…and ofcourse I didn’t miss it…twice
… First in Croatia (august 2008), and now in Serbia (february 2009)..with the different setlists 
… “Somewhere back in time tour” is something no other band will top…but maybe Maiden, themselves. 
“Children of the damned” live and “Hallowed be thy name” live was a lifetime expirience…as the whole show was…
CONGRATULATIONS, and, as Bruce said, this award is significant becouse it has been voted by fans… and Maiden has the most loyal fans on Earth… thay can’t be compared with any other fans in the world… some football team fans maybe…
