Hammer spoke to ex-Sepultura/Soulfly mainman Max Cavalera about the forthcoming new Soulfly album ‘Omen’.

1) It’s called ‘Omen’, there are 11 tracks (ok, so we knew that).
2) Prong’s Tommy Victor does guest vocals on a song called ‘Lethal Injection’.
3) Greg from The Dillinger Escape Plan sings on ‘Rise Of The Fallen’
4) …which is to be the first single and first video.

5) “It’s Soulfly’s most punk album. The songs are more straight-up. Less jamming. It’s more in your face. It’s heavier.
6) “Progress? It’s more direct like ‘Conquer’ without the extras.”
7) “My favourite songs are ‘Vulture Culture’ and ‘Blood Bath And Beyond’
8 ) ‘Vulture Culture’ is about pop culture, especially in American with Pop Idol where the whole country gets brainwashed into liking one thing. It’s a vulture culture.”
9) ‘Blood Bath And Beyond’ is about… blood. It’s about killing. ‘The river runs red, blood bath runs everywhere’.
10) “There’s actually a song on there called ‘Jeffrey Dahmer’. It’s my first serial killer song ever, I thought it was about time I did one. I chose Jeffrey Dahmer because he ate people. My brother – Iggor – actually has the receipt for the fridge that he kept the bodies in.”
11) Max’s kids are on the record too. Zyon and brother Iggor both drum on a track each (It’s Zyon’s in-utero heartbeat that’s on the intro of Chaos AD).
