A7X: “We Wanted To Cover Mr. Bungle!”
Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M Shadows has told Metal Hammer that the band originally wanted to cover a Mr. Bungle track for the upcoming compilation, ‘Covered – A Revolution In Sound’, before settling on Black Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’.
In an exclusive chat with Metal Hammer, A7x’s M Shadows told us that the band originally wanted to cover Mr. Bungle’s 1991 track, ‘Strubb (A Dub). Check out our Avenged Sevenfold ‘Sin City’ picture gallery!
“We were very excited to cover a song from Mr Bungle (‘Scrub (A Dub)’) but then we were told that there was a list of songs that we could cover, not choose anything Warner’s had put out,” Shadows revealed. “So after we got the list, the guys chose ‘Paranoid’. It was actually a little harder to figure out which song we could learn in time to reach the deadline, so we felt we couldn’t go wrong with a ‘Sabbath cover.”
When talking about ‘Sabbath, Shadows continued “They have been very influential on all of our favourite bands. Most of the cool shit you hear coming out today is because of Black Sabbath. (‘Paranoid’)’s a classic and we feel even people who aren’t ‘Sabbath fans will know the song. Covers are fun when we find the right one. I love working on Avenged material over anything else though.
Shadows also confirmed that Avenged Sevenfold will begin writing the follow-up to 2007’s self-titled album in the upcoming months. The band have also been linked with a slot on this summer’s Gigantour in the States.
‘Covered – A Revolution In Sound’ will be available to download from February 16th.

You’ve put Stubb (A Dub) twice in this article, put it differently twice, and neither is correct! See above. It’s a damn shame they couldn’t cover it, they should just do the entire Bungle self titled album

So fucking glad they didn’t cover Mr. Bungle. My favourite band and they would wreck the oddity that it is. A7X Is nowhewre near Mike Patton vocally. And I doubt any of them can play the trumpet
and Chris is right you spelt it wrong twice.
That would have been an AWESOME cover. Avenged is a lot closer to Bungle that Sabbath. Kinda wished they’d challenged themselves a little more though…they def could have learned some obscure song on the list easily rather than choose the song EVERY band and their grandma covers.
