they’re probably just as big as iron maiden, as for rammstein, waaay bigger, though rammstein would also be a great headliner, everyone is just into alsorts of music, i think it’s more the fact that AC/DC havn’t played Donington in so long.

Personally sonisphere is a complete fail for me this year as it was last year, never have I been let down by andy copping even in 07 when the headliners of the main stage were terrible (mcr, linkin park and maiden) he booked awesome headliners for the second stages (motley crüe, korn and billy talent). Personally having been to every DL since 2004 I hope and pulls out an awesome announcment as usual, totally eclipsing soni to prove to all the people saying download is dead wrong, not that it needs proving being that this year is the 30th anniversary of the Donington music festival be it monsters of rock or download. I don’t see the huge buzz about soni? Every festival has a bad year at least once, next year is only the second apperance of soni in the uk it will slip up one year, soni goers will return to Donington.
Anyway rant over where ever we all end up this festival season I’m sure it’ll be a blast as usual, happy camping!

I dunno about acdc though, every year i go to download theres always rumours that acdc are gonna play…

After going to both festivals last year (sonisphere on the free tickets they gave out to people who entered comps and didn’t win) I’d say that although the Soni line up looks great so far I just can’t see it being as much fun as Download. The music was too quiet, some of the bands didn’t care at all and the audience was up its own arse.

I’m in no way a limp bizkit fan but at Download the set was joyous,fun and the crowd loved every second of the happy stupidity. At Sonisphere the crowd took a shit on them because “Machinehead should have been above them on the bill” and stopped it being a fun time

Line up wise well done to Soni – atmosphere wise Soni needs to do something to make it obvious that they are going to do something to make the atmosphere better (and not launch unsuspecting metal heads 50 feet in the air) and also sort the sound out so that we don’t have another “Saxon incident”!

The download atmosphere by comparison was so great that even with a weaker line up it’d be the one I went for

AC/DC posted on their site last night for the Friday with the new european dates which were annouced as well. Then swiftly took it down, and Andy Copping not denying the rumour on Twitter…so I think its pretty safe to say they will be there. And yes Megadeth are shit….Dave Mustaine is not a good guitar player and his ego is fucking annoying along with his poor albums which he keeps bringing out

I agree with Ian, the atmosphere at Download was INCREDIBLE this year and there was not one person in the crowd when Limp Bizkit played that didn’t have a massive smile on their face. The Slipknot show on the Saturday was one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen and they got the variety of bands on each stage excatly right so there was always something going on that would suit everyone’s taste.

For a festival in it’s first year Sonisphere did really well and the line up was good, but Ian’s right, the atmosphere was dulled somewhat and the crowd were totally up their own asses (probably becuase half of them hadn’t paid for tickets, they’d won them in the plethora of competitions that ran before the event). Noone seemed to be having as much fun at Sonisphere as they were at Download.

Regardless, I think we’ll be blessed with 2 great rock and metal festivals in 2010 and I can’t bloody wait!

How cool is it to be seeing all this debate over the awesome line-up of two awesome shows – I remember when MoR was the ONLY show of the year and we were pleased with whatever acts were on!

To organise a tour effectively, dates have to be scheduled, transport organised, press statements prepared etc, and Andy Copping, doesn’t know about AC/DC playing Download?

Just release the conformation…or, are you going to release a statement closer to Christmas (perhaps the 23rd of December?) to counter act Sonisphere’s press release about early Christmas presents to its fans?

Download has to keep up the compition with Sonisphere. Last year Download (in my views) won, but the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Maiden and Rammstein will be tough to beat. AC/DC will certainly rival any of those

Id rather see Maiden than DC but I dunno what to do. Both festivals cost about the same but download is longer, has more days of music, more days of drinking etc.

I like Maiden more than AC/DC, but Acca Dacca are bigger than the Irons and Rammstein put together, with sales of over 200 million (Back in Black alone has sold nearly 50 million copies). Sure they’re one-dimensional but they’re a phenomenal live band and are true legends.

I’m doing both, there’s always bands I like and bands I don’t like at festivals, always will be, just chill and get another beer.

They are awesome live. I saw them twice this year in ireland and they are still awesome and the Rock world will miss them when they are gone. I am into everything from ‘Tool.Godsmack,Disturbed,Thin Lizzy, Megadeth,metallica,Dream Theater’ etc etc and i am recommending that if you have even the slightest in this band-GO SEE THEM LIVE

Honestly I think ACDC are the biggest joke of a band. Andy Copping is so full of himself, I hardly call this one of the biggest stories of 2010, unless hes planning to show another major headliner im avoiding download as best I can.

ok firstly calling maiden as a headliner terrible earns you a smack and yeah soni didn’t sell that many tickets last year but that was it’s first year and i think the main point was it actually worked.
this year i’m gonna say it’s definatelty going to be tons better especially if the big 4 come to the UK and from the podcast i’ve been hearing about how downloads been after rammstein for ages and what has soni done in their 2nd year? oh and the big 4 have never shared a stage in history and what has soni done? and iron maiden have to be the biggest UK metal band around and haven’t played the UK for a couple of years and again who have they delivered?

i think so far soni has created more ‘buzz’ then download and you’re crazy to jus dismiss it as a fail.

I think Andy Copping has to announce something huge quick before people start losing faith in download.
Yeah AC/DC are amazing but they did a huge arena and stadium tour over here last year and a lot of people saw ‘em.

Firstly, to Shiteload, the only date Bon Jovi could play would be the Saturday, as they are playing at the O2 on the Friday and the Sunday

Secondly, AC/DC would be HUGE. Yeah, Sonisphere has Maiden and Rammstein, but AC/DC are one of the best live bands in the world, put on a show that gives Maiden’s a run for it’s money with giant trains, pyros, etc. and they are the greatest rock n roll band on the planet. Personally, as a huge Maiden fan, I will be at Knebworth, but don’t just dismiss the legendary AC/DC – considering there was a rumour they would call it a day after this tour, thats big news!

Hmmm…feck. I’m not a massive DC fan, BUT if this is anything like the caliber of the rest of the bands this year at DL, then I might need to try and get time to go to both.

The good thing about Soni vs DL is it forces them both to try and get really good bands, or lose face and sales to the other, when DL was the largest festival it didnt have competition in the same way!

Remember last year when Heaven & Hell where supposed to be playing Download according to their myspace page. Then it got taken off.

This could be the same thing. Plus…. AC/DC have been rumoured to play Download almost every year since Download started

aparantly they are both 3 day festivals this year… so its who can get the best line up between sonisphere and download… although i love DC, i think maiden will be better.

I went to download last year as in my opinion the lineup was excellent some of the best headliners. But if AC/DC is headlining i can’t be fucked as in my opinion I don’t think they are what theyre wrked up to be.

Sonisphere has my money, Cooper, anthrax, slayer and maiden.

Andrew – I know they are mate, Twickenham proved that, as did the BRIT Award! But AC/DC come a close second. They will rip Download apart, trust me.
