Alexisonfire: “This Is No Concept Album”
Alexisonfire have spoken to Metal Hammer about their new record, ‘Old Crows/Young Cardinals’.
18 months ago Hammer was in Canada to see Alexisonfire working on material for their new album, ‘Old Crows/Young Cardinals’. The song we heard, never made it to the album, so we asked frontman George Pettit where it went?
“That song is recorded. That’s ‘Fire’, it’s a b-side. I don’t think we’ve recorded vocals yet, but it’s there. We had 17 songs recorded and 11 made it. We’ve never really had that, and it was really hard to whittle them down to 11. It means that the fans can look forward to 7”s and b-sides and fun singles and giveaways.”
George also explained that while ‘Crisis’ had a concept, ‘Old Crows’ doesn’t:
“There are some themes that interweave into a couple of songs, but overall the songs are all about very different things. There is a lot of talk of living like a nomad, questioning science and religion.”
And explained how his voice change has left some fans a little confused – George now sounding more similar to guitarist/singer, Wade MacNeil.
“Yeah, that came up. There were a lot of jokes about that. Some of the first responses from fans were, ‘oh, that’s Wade’. So now we have two guys with gravely voices in the band.”
