I’m not a fan but I’m saddened to hear this. What a tragic waste. My thoughts are with his fans, family and friends right now.

Admittedly one of my least favourite bands, but metal has lost a very talented musician in The Rev. R.I.P.

I’m not saying that they weren’t great musicians, just that all artists who pass before their time are put on a pedestal beyond what recognition they would receive otherwise. Mike Alexander for example is indeed a great bassist, but the production on Evile records meant that the Bass hardly cut through the mix; not helped by the fact that a lot of it was written very similar to the guitar parts.

Look at The Dark Knight for example. Heath Ledger put in a fantastic performance but I would never in a million years consider it the 7th best film of all time as it currently stands on IMDB.com

I feel so fortunate and honored to have seen them live twice, at the Glasgow Academy in ‘08 and supporting Iron Maiden at Twickenham, James was one of most charismatic and funniest drummers i’ve ever seen and I really hope that Avenged Sevenfold will find the strength to carry on; for the fans, Leana, The Rev and themselves. My thoughts are with you all, Rest In Peace The Reverend Tholomew Plague.

WWE Fans obviously would know about Eddie Guerrero, he had an enlarged heart due to his drinking and drugs, which he quit years before his death, and died as a result of it, now I don’t know in great detail what The Rev had took, but this may be the same case. Nevertheless lets not focus on this as the autopsy reports will figure that out, lets think of his friends and family and their fans. I was speechless when I found out, 28 is way to young, I thought he was an incredible drummer.

i dont think his death was natural, it could have had something to do with his past, in reference to his use of drugs & alcohol, it doesnt matter how long the person has been clean or reduced his d&a intake, it would still have an affect on his heart. It happened with the WWE wrestler Eddie Guerrero 4yrs ago, they kinda had similiar lifestyles, and both were taken far too young.

I saw A7X live in Glasgow January 07, they were immense. Glad i got to see them with the classic line up so to speak. I agree with the comments, hoping the band go on to make awesome music in his legacy, much like AC/DC & Metallica amongst others.

It’s such a shame that young metal musicians are dying like this. It’s really not right. Despite peoples oppinions on the band theres nothing worse than a talented individual passing away before truelly achieving their ranks. What sad news. The Rev was a great drummer I thought. And I was proud to have seen him and the band earlier this year at Knebworth.

Amongst all the heartfelt comments from fans and others, it’s a shame one or two gits like to take the opportunity to vent some abuse. If you really feel that vitriolic you should go and get some help because you have a problem that clearly music isn’t overcoming. If you’re just trying to wind people up then you need to ask yourselves what’s missing from your personality that you feel the need to act in such an infantile manner.

As great as i think avenged are, i think they should call it a day because things will not be the same, the rev drums like no other , he is not the best (because we have travis smith, dave lombardo and nicko mckbrain) but he has distinct drumming and distinct singing which added alot to the band. So i think avenged should call it a day before they get labeled as not caring etc … I think they should release the stuff theyve just finished then end it to save them from press, angry fans etc etc .

That still doesn’t make up for the fact that an important member of their band has died. I mean, if one of your band members died recently, you’d assume that other musicians would pay respect for them – even if they didn’t like their music. Musicians should unite to comfort one another in these types of situations. this has left me genuinly in shock, although i no longer listen to a7x much, they are a major part of the reason i still listen to metal this day. although im sure the band will pull through this it saddens me to know that part of the a7x i listened to when i was a young teenager is gone.

i will always miss The Rev. i have followed the band since their CD Waking the Fallen and he was in my eyes one of the best drummers in the history of metal. no one will be able to replace him in the band, though try as they might.

Woah. Got tuned in to A7X last year so pretty new to them, but its always shitty to hear of a musician dying. RIP my thoughts with the band and his family.

I found out just minutes ago,and my thoughts and condolences go to family, friends and Avenged Sevenfold, I absolutely Love the band and have just recently collected all albums they have released and every song is completely blistering. The atmosphere they create is unbelieveable.

I hope that the band will still create music and carry on as their songs have been there for me when i needed a big pick-me-up.

Their bonus DVD with their self titled album really highlighted the music for me and was a good laugh and a great in depth look at how much it takes to record an album.

At 28, I think it’s a bit skeptical to be promoting the theory of ‘natural causes’. There’s more to the story I believe, and I’m curious to find it all out.

Genuinly shocked and when i first saw “rip rev” in the headline i was thinking of any other person it could possibly be and hoping i was wrong about who had passed…unfortunately i wasnt the band will never be quite the same but i hope they keep on going for him.
