Beez: The Similarity Between Chris Cornell & I

terrybezer / News / 12/03/2009 14:23pm

Beez tells all about the time he did something really, really stupid and compares it to the backlash that’s currently going on against Chris Cornell.

I was once on my way home from a very drunken night out. The beer had flown like a river, good times had been had and as I got off the bus that was close to my home, I began chatting to two young ladies outside the local chip shop.

Before I get to the idiotic conclusion of this story, please bear in mind that I’m a plonker for this story. I’m no gigolo or Casanova like Joe Elliot, I’m a plonker.

Anyway, getting back to the story. These two ladies offered me the opportunity to go back to their place and I turned down this once-in-a-lifetime, “surely this only happens in porn?” set of circumstances. What was the reason for not going home with two women? It wasn’t that there was a dying child that I had to save. Oh no, that would be something valid.

My reason for going home was that I had bought a new pair of trainers that day and my feet were killing me so much that I had to go home because I was in agony. Again, as if you needed reminding, I’m a plonker.

My friends still don’t let me forget this act of ridiculousness (despite that it happened 7 years ago) and if you want to leave any abuse for me in the comments section, I deserve every word of it.

Why am I telling you this story? It’s simple. If you do something that is really, really bloody stupid, you can’t be surprised when somebody ridicules you for it. At this juncture, it seems only right to say a word or two about Chris Cornell.

Chris Cornell has one of the greatest voices of our generation and was responsible for some of the best music of the 90’s. The guy is a phenomenal talent but his decision to do songs with Timbaland could be described as “ill-advised” at best. Check out Cornell’s latest single here.

The man is capable of writing brilliant, life-affirming rock music so quite why he’d opt to do tracks that sound like Justin Timberlake, I have no idea.

So, now there’s a little bit of a backlash. Trent Reznor summed it up in less than 140 characters on his Twitter than I ever could. If Chris wants to try new things, then that’s fine, but if you do something really, really bloody stupid, you have to face the consequences.

Ask me and my feet. We know all about it.

‘Til next time,

Beez
