Buy Pretty Hate Machine
On August 17th, the classic Nine Inch Nails album, ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ and other records from the TVT catalogue, will go up for auction. This is because a company called Prudential Securities Financial Services lent the label $32 million in 1999, with the rights to certain albums being put up as collateral. Unfortunately after six years, TVT have only managed to pay back $10 million, so the Prudential are exercising their legal option to raise the rest through this auction.
While it’s a nice idea to own ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ in a way no one else can (MH was toying with having a whip round to raise the necessary), it is cynical though realistically believed that the public auction is an effort to lure Trent Reznor into buying the rights and paying top dollar.
