Chi Cheng Showing Signs Of Improvement
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who has been in a coma since being involved in a serious car accident last week in California, is thankfully showing signs of improvement and continues to grow stronger every day.
The Deftones latest update on the situation reads:
“The critical 72 hours has passed and his condition is stable. His doc is expecting a recovery but want to continue to sedate him and keep him quiet, he was trying to fight even in his coma. His mother and son have asked that I pass this information on as well…”
“In the past when Chi was not on tour he would gather a few instruments together once a week and meet the homeless kids in the park to play music with them. Today we ask you to give a homeless person a blanket, some warm clothes or some food. If you don’t see a homeless person, reach out to a child near or far, and show some kindness to them. keep sending your good thoughts and prayers, they are keeping him with us and he is improving daily.”
In other news, Chi’s mother Jeanne has offered the following update on the Deftones Myspace page:
“When asking Chi’s head neurosurgeon what kind of thank-you gift we could get for he and his team of doctors, he responded that some of the surgeons love the DEFTONES and he would like them to have tickets for when chi’s back onstage. He expects a tough recovery but in the end expects Chi will be playing his bass again. Praise Jah. For himself, the doc has a special request for all of you. He will give you more details soon. It is 1:00 a.m. now and I am with Chi. I’ve been reading your emails to him. You are so wonderful. My heart aches with love for you. We are all connected.”
Metal Hammer will continue to keep you updates on this situation.

Get well soon, my friend.
Get well soon.
We are keeping Ling in our prayers as we are all the Cheng family. Jerry and his wife were her Saturday night and we talked at length about the boys high school days together at Villa Park and fun times with them at our house.. Craig Underwood has been in touch with us also about this. Jerry had us laughing talking about how he basically taught Ling & Ming guitar and now Ling is famous and he’s a salesman. I am looking at a vase made by Ling, signed Chi on the bottom that he gave me about 1987. Pulling for you and hoping you wake up soon.
Love, Jan & Neil Mason, Jerry Mason & family
