Cradle Of Filth Guitarist Hospitalized

Cradle Of Filth were last night forced to stop their headline performance at Bloodstock.

On Saturday night, Cradle Of Filth, came under attack from one or more people who had taken to throwing things at the band. One missile struck Cradle Of Filth guitarist Paul Allender who was reportedly knocked unconscious <>. The band stopped playing and ambulances were on the scene in no time. Paul was treated in an ambulance before being driven to a local hospital.

While we cannot confirm what the missiles were, some witnesses have said it was large gob-stoppers. Possibly the size of cricket balls!

Check out our Bloodstock reviews of Municipal Waste/Carcass here.

A Metal Hammer photographer was also rushed to the hospital for kidney pain, and saw Paul at the hospital. Our snapper can confirm that he was “fine” and “walking around”.

Bloodstock organisers have said: “that one selfish ticketholder soured an amazing day and a stunning performance by the headliners” and hoped that “the rest of the fans in attendance will enjoy the rest of the weekend.”

What a prick. The thrower that is. Im not a Cradle fan, but i wouldn’t throw anything solid at them. bottles/piss/bottles of piss, sure but thats abit much.

Phantasmagasm

Complete knob. (thrower)

Agreed.
I would’ve been thoroughly disapointed had I been there watching them, I love Cradle!
Throwing shit at bands you don’t like can be a laugh sometimes (dependent who it is and what it is being thrown) but solid objects like rocks, stones, whatever hard object comes to hand is a bit far if you ask me…

It was such an awesome day, and thanks to some dudes the ending was dissapointing, and i didn’t leave with a smile on my face. I mean if you don’t like the band piss off?

wtf :@!!
Who the fuck throws shit at Cradle!
Ill fucking kill the cunt who threw at Paul, hes so mad
Im a huge Cradle fan, and i hate cunts like that prick who throws shit at bands.

You onlt throw shit at like MCR and Shortstack and all those emo faggoty bands >;l
Not metal bands!

Exactly Micah.
Time used abusing a band you don’t like is time wasted, when you can just as easily go to check out who’s playing the other stages, or time to go grab a beer.

Scott Davenport

What a dick. I hate people who throw. I detest Cradle of Filth, I don’t like them one bit, but that being said, I would never want to pysically harm any of the members just for fun.

I went on Friday, Arch Enemy and Carcass were stunning. Not everyone liked them, but everyone didn’t throw things at the stage. Thats how it should be.

metalmadman89

honestly i cant stand cradle of filth, but seriously throwing shit? grow up people. your supposed throw your shit at pussy pop bands liek atl and fall out boy geez. not at the concert i must stress that. outside when they are done you do a driveby piss and diahrea balloons. those pussy boy bands who fool naive girls and metro dudes into thinking they have talent deserve it. just think one more person who gets trapped in the web of shitty pop bands is one less headbanger in the fuckin pit!! Kill em all!

DOROTHY MCGUIRE

WTF? REALLY? WHAT’S WRONG WITH PPL? I HOPE HE’S O.K. PEOPLE ARE FUCKED UP DUDE, I’M SO SORRY FOR HIM. I WISH HIM A SPEEDY RECOVERY.ALL MY BEST.DOROTHY.

Jesus. How can anyone be so shallow? I wouldn’t even throw stuff at Nickelback and I detest them with every inch of my being.

Oh and, metalmadman89 is teh tr00 metulz

turrican

gobstoppers?

Moshtank

I don’t even like cradle that much
but still i’d respect their right to play for their fans.
i mean whos that much of a prick anyway?
i hope that guy gets buried up to his own neck in shit and stoned to death with gobstoppers

Davytherave

Its just jelousy that causes idiots to throw stuff at bands they dont like.I really cant stand C.O.F,but have respect that they have worked hard and have talent as musicians so wouldnt dream of throwing anything at them.Kinda concerns me about the state of “fans” these days at a so called proper metal festival when instead of getting drunk, enjoying the bands you came to see and if you get lucky copping off with a nice lady, people would rather waste their time being ringpieces.I hope someone saw who did it and they get banned from further fesitvals to let the people who are there get on and enjoy themselves!

katatonicgrace

i think that some people were probably pissed at the fact that Cradle were 20 minutes late onto the stage, and dani was his usual arrogant, goading self. that said, it is no excuse and whoever was responsible ruined the night for a lot of people, including me. nevermind, Anathema are next!

caughtinamosh

i may not be a cradle fan but id never throw anything at any band ever! its disrespectful, demoralising and disgusting human behaviour. kinda sickens me to the core. its almost no different from being attacked on the street or should i say, …in your work! i dont see the point of paying for a ticket just to stand in a crowd for a band you dislike and throw stuff at them, while you could be elsewhere enjoying the festival, fuck knows, that guy is obv a cunt and a disgrace to bloodstock and Metal

noobpotato

Man what pricks, what a sad way to end the day. I’m not the biggest fan of cradle of filth but i still wouldn’t want to ruin it for others. Hopefully it wasn’t early in their set either.

Eddie Maiden

Bottling is a tradition of festivals. This is just an instant where someone takes it too far.

Wow, who woulda thought that people could actually fool themselves into believing they have moral standards on what level of firing projectiles at performers is acceptable? “Oh well personally I’m all in favour of throwing bottles of piss at people, but a gobstopper? That’s just too far, how could somebody do that?” Pot, kettle, black. If you’re at a concert and you’re throwing things at the performers (other than the obvious complimentaries that some fans throw, underwear, flags, banners etc.) you’re as bad as the fucking ape parading as a human that nailed the Cradle guitarist in the head and please spare the common, decent concert-goer your attempts to justify your actions or explain yourself away as somehow less offensive.

caughtinamosh

hmm i dont think my last comment worked

TruSeattleite

Agreed. Throwing anything at a band just because you don’t like them is ignorant and childish. Grow up people and quit ruining the shows for those of us that want to enjoy the show.

joey only

OMG is he ok??

i bet who ever did it was iver some gay blackmetal wannabe or just sum total ****
i hope the person who did it gets *cough* Stripped…raped and f***in strangled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XD cannibal corpse AND cradle of filth RAWK!!!!

hope he gets better!

Myssinic

Wow. I hope the crowd had the good sense to beat the crap outta that guy.

messiah_dethroned

what a fuckin cunt, who would stone any band? it brings back memories of Pantera such a tragic waste, because some fuck head was having a bad day. fuck that guy in his ass, with a rusty barbed wire cod piece

Eddie Maiden

Bottle throwing has been done for absolutely bloody years. If you like a band, throw your underwear, if you don’t, throw a bottle. i meant going too far as in Aiming for a member at the band, and I’m damn sure the person who did it never meant to hospitalise them. People have the right to show distaste as well as appreciation.

Wow, I think I found the missing link between ape and man. Just imagine a lot of people decide to display their distaste at once, for sake of argument. They all throw bottles. Then what happens? What if the entire crowd don’t like the act and the entire crowd throw bottles. They may not be aiming for the band but at least some of them are still going to hit the band. Then someone gets hurt in the barrage of bottles. How about you just evolve a little and leave if you’re feeling so much distaste? Everyone can be happy and nobody gets hurt. People have the right to show distaste, they do not have the right to risk the health of human beings, be they onstage or anywhere else. Or should we all become chavs and start throwing bottles at people in the street who evoke our distaste? I’m sure you’d be delighted if you got bottles thrown at you.

mosherman

Empty plastic bottles yeah sure, not a prob, Shit, i was there, nobody was allowed to even take so much as a can of carling in through the gate. But Gobstoppers the size of cricket balls that anyone could buy from the sweet shop on site for £2 each ?!!
My best wishes to paul, dani and the band, they were doing great, but you few arseholes who did what you did, i hope they identify all of you and you never get to another gig or festival again. There is no excuse for your actions.
Other than that, what great day. what a pity that a few knobheads were there too.

Cradle are my fave band.Very unfortunate that they had to stop on friday night

bigbren

Just got back from Bloodstock and have to tell it how it is. I was at the front and was watching the guitarist who had his back turned facing his amp. A missile(looked like a tin of carling) hit him in the lower back. He then pulled his face and walked off the stage left fully concious. They were right to stop the show if he was hurt but it struck me that Dani Filth made the decision as he had a few bottles thrown at during the show and obviously didnt like it. The crowd watching were fully up for cradle of filth and one idiot ruined it for everyone. As a result no beer was aloud anywhere in the campsite as off this morning people had to drink crates outside the festival entrance. The guy was still selling the gobstoppers on the liquerice stall all day today and we commented over the weekend about the damage they could do anyway if thrown.

i was in my campsite drinking and i know people behind the scenes and it was a giant fuck off gobstopper, that prick should have been kicked out but too many peopel hated them for it to happen……

nailman

what a dickhead, you dont go to see the bands you dont at a festival… you either get pissed or watch another band.

Eddie Maiden

Okay, fine. What we’ll do is, every band that plays, we’ll get everyone to shout out ‘Your the greatest band ever!’ to EVERY SINGLE BAND instead? People are allowed to show that they don’t like a band! I am NOT condoning hurting people. Should no one mosh and start circle pits because there’s a chance someone could get hurt?

Fuck, what an arsehole. Was it early in the set? I feel sorry for the Cradle fans who parted with their hard earned cash to see them. Hope the fucker was beaten!!

Lewis@Hammer

I totally disagree Eddie, if you don’t like a band, just don’t go. If you do, then go again. Simple really don’t you think?

Eddie Maiden

Its not actually that simple. If you want to see a band like Blind Guardian who rarely tour Britian you’d want to get as close to the stage as possible. This means getting to the front early and staying for all the bands, regardless of whether you like them, as I doubt people will move out of the way just so you can get to the front. Obviously this case WAS different, but it shows that its not ’simple really’.

Dani Filth had terrible vocals for this gig. There was even some idiot that shone a laser pen in his eye whilst on stage. They were rubbish live but didn’t deserve what they got.

Cradle’s excellent set was unfortunately cut short. There was a crowd of twats marching around shouting ‘Dani Filth is a c**t’ after the incident but the next day the singer from Moonspell (awesome band) said Dani was a good friend of his so I expect he’d better watch out next time they are here.

Bloodstocker

Eddie your point is absolutely ridiculous. People have the right to show distaste either by not going, or in this supposed case of being stuck at the front, by making a justified argument or just not clapping. Throwing bottles at them? If you don’t condone violence aiming missiles at someone probably isn’t the wisest of ideas. Moshing voluntarily is slightly different to an attack on a defenceless person. You wouldn’t bottle someone in the street so why the hell is it acceptable to do it to a band member simply for performing for their fans? One individual’s point of view hardly deserves to ruin the festival for everyone else. I went to see them being completely indifferent to the band or their music and despite having heard ‘Dani Filth’s an arrogant bastard’ he did nothing on this occasion that was any different to any other frontman. In fact, I found that despite the barrage of bottles being thrown at him he acted with dignity and continued to perform well. I agreed with the Bloodstock organisers and was completely disgusted that someone could injure another person at a supposedly friendly festival. I also find it sad that not only did they ruin the night, but the likelihood of future UK performances for Cradle of Filth fans. I personally think whoever did it was some idiot trying to be controversial whilst joining in the with the tiresome and unoriginal tradition of attacking Cradle of Filth because they’re seen as ‘uncool’. I’d love to see the coward justify their actions to Paul in person.

I was as annoyed as everyone else at Cradle’s set being cut short and at the idiots throwing things, but i was right at the front opposite Paul Allender and saw him get hit in his lower back with a bottle and then walk off stage, so i was just wondering how that knocked him unconsious?

Lewis@Hammer

“Its not actually that simple. If you want to see a band like Blind Guardian who rarely tour Britian you’d want to get as close to the stage as possible. This means getting to the front early and staying for all the bands, regardless of whether you like them, as I doubt people will move out of the way just so you can get to the front. Obviously this case WAS different, but it shows that its not ’simple really’.”

So you stay and throw crap at a band?

It shouldn’t happen. End of. Whether its Cradle Of Filth or your local band. Its wrong and I dare anyone of those pussies who throw stuff to man up and tell a band they’re shit instead of hiding in the crowd, hell I dare them to do what these bands do everyday. I’m not having a pop at you Eddie, just really miffed at the small amount of people who ruin it for everyone else.

Eddie Maiden

Thats not what I mean. I was answering to the statements ‘you dont go to see the bands you dont at a festival… you either get pissed or watch another band.’ & ‘and if you don’t like a band, just don’t go’.
I don’t condone hurting people, but bottling the STAGE, not aiming for the band has been always been done. Because of one spot of bad judgement (probably by someone who was pissed) it’s suddenly ‘ban it’. There’s no complaints on here if people bottle 50 Cent or MCR, so why now? Because its a metal band?
Oh, and Circle Pits? Not everyone in one WANTS to be, people get swept up, is THAT fair?

i was in the front row and he dident get knocked out, it hit him in the lower back not the head. he walked off stage and every thing. but there where a shit load of pissed cradel fans running round saying they were guna find the guy who did it and kill him. i was one of them come to think of it (not the guy throwing)

fretboardpyro

shouldn’t that be a “giant gigstopper” was thrown at paul allender, I’m by no stretch of the imagination a cradle of filth fan or lover but the whole incident sucks and ruined it for the peeps who turned up to see them. still, the compare made it worse when it happened by making us all to try and feel like twats by patronising us, which i really don’t appreciate! for crying out loud i’m 32 not 12, i don’t want it aimed at me, aim it at the knob who did it!

[...] having to cut their set short through an injury to their guitarist at this weekend’s Bloodstock festival, Cradle of Filth and Dani Filth have both issued [...]

EddieMaiden

Hate to ask, but why is “Cradle of Filth” & “Dani Filth” not just COF?
seems a wee bit retarded to me… Unless of course its to show he’s bigger than the band, although he’s shorter than a dwarf :)

Alamino

Id like to confirm that the people wearing ‘dani filth is a cunt’ shirts were NOT the ones throwing stuff. aparently the shirts were a joke in retaliation to the jesus is a cunt shirts xD

EddieMaiden, you’re not infallible, neither is any other human being. There’s no way in HELL you can decide that you’re going to bottle *the stage* and there’s no risk of hitting any of the people ON it. So if you’re as anti-hurting people as you like to think don’t throw shit. As for circle pits, they’re voluntary. You don’t wanna mosh you run away from the circle pit. Simple. Actually I WAS outraged when they bottled MCR, I’m a big fan, I don’t care who they are, if you’re throwing shit at them you’re a cunt.
