Cradle Of Filth Issue Bloodstock Statement
After having to cut their set short through an injury to their guitarist at this weekend’s Bloodstock festival, Cradle of Filth and Dani Filth have both issued statements about the incident.
Cradle Of Filth’s statement reads:
“Cradle of Filth would just like to apologise to all Cradle of Filth fans at Bloodstock for not being able to perform the full length of set on Saturday. This was due to a selfish and stupid person in the crowd throwing dangerous objects at the band and injuring Paul, who then had to be hospitalised.
“This person threw what were being sold at the site as ‘gobstoppers,’ but which were actually heavy, solid, pieces of candy, approximately the size of a cricket ball and weighing close to a pound, at the band. Approximately six of these were thrown, one narrowly missed hitting Ashley in the face and also a terminally ill young fan in a wheelchair sitting side of the stage, a couple just missed Dani and then one hit Paul in the spine, causing him to collapse. The paramedics called an ambulance and Paul was taken to hospital with suspected spinal damage; where he was subjected to numerous tests before the doctors said they didn’t think Paul had sustained any lasting damage.
“This act of stupidity caused the show to finish prior to the encore, caused Paul serious pain and everyone else a lot of anxiety. This person is lucky that no one was seriously injured or worse, which could easily have been the case and a serious police matter.
“Why does someone buy a ticket for a festival where everyone should be enjoying the weekend and having a good time and then have to ruin it for other people? A very selfish, sad person, one can only imagine.
“So again, full apologies to everyone who was at Bloodstock to have a good time and to see the band and if you think you know who the person was that spoiled everyone else’s evening, please let us, the Bloodstock staff or the police know as soon as possible, because next time someone may not be so lucky.”
Dani Filth has also had words to say about the incident. His statement reads:
“No-one could be more disappointed than I about the ridiculous and callous incident that happened on Saturday night. Bloodstock is an event that we have long endorsed and looked forward to headlining due to its united European metal vibe, its growing popularity and of course, it being one of the better festivals held on English soil.
“The crowd, as expected, were great and we were playing well with an arsenal of songs yet to deliver, when the stupidity started. I actually thought one of the balls thrown was an apple and was going to head-butt it as it flew past my head and on toward Ashley, then luckily thought twice about it. The missiles were the size of cricket balls but solid and almost a pound in weight. Enough to kill a person at that speed, according to a medic who attended Paul behind stage.
“Of all the years I have spent touring the world, nothing comes even close to this for downright sheer stupidity. My ten-year-old daughter Luna was also standing side of stage when the missiles came and although, thank the stars, she was unhurt, the incident indelibly left her frightened and more than a little shook up. This is NOT the reason I brought her along to witness a metal festival and this is certainly NOT the image I want her to take away from Bloodstock or indeed any other metal festival for that matter. I hope the perpetrator(s) are really proud of themselves (sic).
“So again, I apologise to all our fans who were awaiting our encore and can only hope that this selfish bastard who TRIED to ruin the night for everyone is caught and sorted out.
“Hail CRADLE! Hail Bloodstock! Hail metal unity!’”

Cradle have a big fan base otherwise they wouldn’t have been headlining.
If your going to a festival, either listen to a band and respect the decision that was made for them to get that slot or just not go see them.
Its what i did at Download when bands like BMTH were playing, i just fucked off to the other stages.
Bottling a band, fine, that generally won’t damage them, throwing solid objects which could seriously injure them? Thats taking the piss

well said eddiemaiden, blind guardian shouldve probabaly had the last slot as they were sensational, i had left the stage before this happened because despite being a good band they cant get the sound right when their live, but a stupid thing to throw at them bottles are fine but gobstoppers a bit extreme
They didn’t deserve to headline bloodstock, that’s probably why they got shit thrown at them. If they were playing an earlier slot, this probably wouldnt’ve happened.

Its idiotic notions like that (“the band deserved it coz i dont like them, blaa blaa blaa”) that lead people to do daft as hell shit that ruin other peoples fun or hurt them if something heavy is thrown.
So fuck if you dont like COF (or any other band, even *gags* Madina Lake) or feel they “didnt deserve to headline coz i like *band* better”…go do something somewhere else then! Its not that hard to find somthing to do at a festival like Bloodstock…
Comments from dudes like Sean above make me feel deeply embarressed about being a metal head. Whether the crowd liked the band or not, the act was cowardly, stupid, and down right dangerous. And someone did get hurt. Shame on you!!!!

I’m not a Cradle fan, and I wouldn’t throw shit at them, and I don’t condone throwing things at bands anyway… But this is one of funniest things I’ve ever read about.
Dani was right they were playing well- they are a professional band and respect their fans by putting in the hours of rehearsal- the puerile jealous minority should stay away- you should think yourself lucky you weren’t next to me when you threw that thing you stupid fucking bastard- i hope you can’t sleep at night cos you could have killed someone!
this is the kind of stupid shit that makes me realise that I dont want to attend a UK festival. the other european festivals (like graspop or wacken) have a high level of respect for the bands that play there. if you dont like the band then fuck off to the beer tent. so its just pathetic what this person did.

As previously said, Dani Filth has terrible vocals live now, especially since he started smoking. However the people who threw the gob stopers need to be found. It could have been Dani’s daughter for god sakes.

Its such a small minority that do this sorta shit.

Don’t get me wrong I love COF but…I didn’t see Paul collapse? And also I know somebody who said he saw Paul drunk backstage afterwards….So I’m a little confused as to who is making stuff up here.
Overall this was bloody stupid. People should lob gobstoppers at the person responsible, see how they fucking like it.
Let’s face it, there were alot of people at B-O-A including my self who did not want to see cradle. But as has been said already, I went back to my tenet and got drunk. Much better that trowing £3+ worth of sweet stuff at the band. Think of the people who spent all that money to see them. Harsh people, harsh. If that happened with Sabaton of Blind Guardian I would have been furious. So grow up Sean get a life and stay out of Metal, get Back with the chavs ^_^
