Dave Ellefson Back In Megadeth
Well, we didn’t see that one coming!
Coming right out of the folder marked ‘WTF?’, Megadeth have announced that original bassist Dave Ellefson has returned to the band in place of James LoMenzo.
“This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness,” says Megadeth leader, Dave Mustaine. “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked…HARD!”
This changing of the guard happens just in time for Megadeth’s upcoming tour, where the band will be playing their classic album, ‘Rust In Peace’, in its entirety.
“This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike,” says the returning Ellefson. “It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career.”
Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar).
Mustaine does have a few kind words to say about the departing James LoMenzo: “We’d like to thank James LoMenzo for several years of loyal service on the bass, and wish him the very best.”

Well I do feel sorry for james but this is probably the biggest news of 2010. PERIOD.
Big surprise, I have very mixed feelings on this. It’s obviously exciting to see Ellefson back, but James Lomenzo brought a ton to Megadeth and will be missed.

I wouldnt rule out anything when it comes to megadeth (Marty etc)
It wasnt that long ago that they had split up because dave, ”wouldnt be able to play guitar ever again”
Id say its almost inevitable that Marty would rejoin at somepoint in the future.
One Word – Unbeleivable!! Rust In Piece was the album that got me into Metal, so to see Ellefson back in the fold is not only a major surprise but als othe best news so far this year.
Lets hope it stays that way. Got to say Good Luck and thank you to Mr Lamenzo too for helping bring Megadeth back to the Metal path.
i guess ellefson’s lawsuit failed big time then! i guess it goes to show pretty much anything can happen in music. what it doesnt say is if LoMenzo left or was pushed out, he’s a great bassist and i’d say it would be foolish to force him out just for an original member
still, kinda cool to have ellefson back, don’t think friedman will follow him tho cos mustaine is always ranting on about how amazing broderick is
This is excellent news. Sad to see James go he is a hell of a bassist but with Mustaine and Eeefson together again along with Brodericks style can we expect a Megadeth to continue pushing its best? I echo everyone would be great now having Marty back but in recent interviews he has stating he never really cared much for metal so i doubt he will return then again look at todays news!

I love how this came out of freaking nowhere! Well, while it is awesome that they got the original (or most important) bassist in Megadeth’s LOOONNNG history of lineup changes, it is too bad for LoMenzo, who was pretty great. Still, I think it’s safe to say that no one could have seen this coming.
wwwwooooooooo! I called my buddy last night and told him about this tour and he said, “I got school, there’s no Chicago shows, let’s wait…” I got a call this morning from him saying that he bought two tickets in the middle of the night for the Indy show. I mean Lucretia dude, Lucretia.

I saw Menza recently and he is too ill to make it. But Marty can and he should. I hate to see such a great artist swatting Japanese mosquitoes singing “Konichiva … Sumimasen”! He belongs in Deth!!
Mustaine is never going to extract his revenge against metallica in terms of numbers. But in terms of musical heights he already has. It will get better now.

No dude, Ellefson was a brother to dave. This news is fuckin huge. The terrible two are now back together again.
Sad for James, he was fucking awesome, so much better than that Jimmy guy.
Also, I don’t care about any other original members coming back. Chris is brilliant, Marty can stay in Japan for all I care
and Shawn is my favourite drummer ever (I think Gar was a better player, but Shawn’s a better band member. Also Gar’s dead ><). I don't care about Menza coming back.
Don’t see Marty Friedman returning, he’s turned into a recluse in some flat in Japan, hasn’t he?
