Defenders Of The Faith Opening Night Review!

Deputy Editor Caren Gibson is out and abouton our Defenders of The Faith II Tour and we’ve got her review of the first night inside. With only tickets remaining in Birmingham, London and Glasgow, get your tickets while you can!

First nights of package tours never go without a hitch. It’s a relief then, that the biggest problem yesterday was figuring out how to get four bands’ gear on the relatively small stage.

Five Finger Death Punch headline venues the size of Bristol’s Academy – 1,600 sold out, bitches! – in the US and aren’t used to such cramped confines. They made the best of it and although a little impact was lost they certainly won a lot of new fans.

Unearth are a little like God Forbid – the UK’s favourite American support band. They always go down amazingly in front of other people’s crowds with their metal onslaught and last night was no exception. Let’s have them headlining these venues next time.

Dimmu Borgir may be black metal but it’s the accessible kind that appeals to more straight ahead metal fan. Even with half the band equipment cleared from the stage there wasn’t enough room for them to spread their bat wings. What they lacked in stage presence, however, they more than made up for in symphonic destruction.

If you’re not feeling the buzz around Lamb of God at the moment you must be dead. You couldn’t move in the academy and the euphoric response they got was confirmation if ever it were needed that LOG will be un-fucking-touchable in 2009. All the old favourites are in the set plus a few off newie Wrath, which is brave considering it’s not released for another week and a half. These guys are tight. You don’t want to miss it.

I was there – absolutely insane! Lamb of God’s new stuff is THE SHIT!

What a night!

I’m not sure what planet this dude is on but back on earth there are two very unhappy bunnies in this household for two very simple reasons: 5fdp’s amazing set was way too short and an hour of our lives were stolen by the farcical dimmu. LOG are a tight band not done justice by Randy’s frankly weak delivery and to have a roadie that gets the mikes in such a knot is just pants, hopefully future tours will redeem your reputation MH

Lamb Of God delivered how I expected them too… Devastatingly and awesome.

I came here though to comment on Unearth. These are probably one of the most underrated metal bands out there. They truly are a brutal metal assault that deserves the earth. It was disheartening to hear from Trevor (lead singer) when I caught up with him after the set that he could see a lot of people in the crowd who, at the start of the set had the look on their faces as to question why they were on the bill but then it was great to hear that he saw a lot of those faces change by the time they finished to looks of appreciation and respect.

Unearth are truly great and have found it a great pleasure and an honor to sit down and interview Trevor all three times that I have.
