dillinger_90Puciato calls Cavalera a “living legend”, plus new Dillinger Escape Plan track-titles revealed!

Metal Hammer sat down for a chinwag with Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato to ask him all about his upcoming collaboration with Max Cavalera for the forthcoming Soulfly album.

“We’ve toured in the States with the Cavalera Conspiracy and I’ve seen that guy around forever,” says Puciato. “We played at the Deftones Chi Cheng benefit shows and I did the Maynard (James Keenan) part on ‘Passenger’ and he said “man, you did an awesome job on that song and we’re tracking vocals on (Soulfly’s) new album, would you want to lay something down?”

“I said yes and the next day he called and asked if I would come in tomorrow!” chuckles Puciato. “I laughed and said “yeah, can you send me the song?” and he said “no, we’re just going to write it together! I don’t even have vocals yet!” I thought I was going to be handed a lyric sheet and I’d just sing a couple of lines but we ended up going in and writing the entire song together in about 3 hours.”

“The only thing I kept thinking about was Mike Garson (70 year-old NIN and David Bowie pianist who we revealed will appear on the next Dillinger Escape Plan album) and that was how that guy rolls. Being put in the room with Max and the producer and going “OK, come up with something” was very cool and you immediately ramp up all of your senses. ”

“It happens in Dillinger all the time,” admits Greg. “The closer we get to having to record, the better the ideas are that we come up with. It creates a sense of urgency and in any type of aggressive music, if you don’t have urgency, what do you have?”

Greg Puciato’s track is set for inclusion on the new Soulfly album, due out in the first half of 2010.

In related Dillinger news, the band confirmed that the tracks ‘I Wouldn’t if You Didn’t’ and ‘A Room Full Of Eyes’ will join ‘Good Neighbor,’ ‘Farewell, Mona Lisa,’ ‘Crystal Morning,’ and ‘Gold Teeth On A Bum’ on Dillinger’s new album ‘Option Paralysis’, due for release on March 22nd.
