I can see what he has tried to do. He’s tried to be narrative and realistic, which is fair enough. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked in his favour. I wouldn’t say it’s a “bad” painting, but it is in bad taste. There were other ways he could have depicted this without seemingly glorifying the killer. It definately shows pain and fear, but not really in the best way.

There is a bigger image on the website, which is better for looking at it. I briefly looked at some of his other work, and this is just what he does, I don’t think you can really say he’s not an artist for it. Artists aren’t out to shock.

I don’t really like it, but hey, art is art.

thats just an example but there are loads of metal bands who use real life acts of violence as inspiration for songs album titles and even band names.

Well first off I would question what charity this is being auctioned off for? I don’t think its sick, many famous people and their deaths have been depicted in various forms of art. I do personally think that it’s not the best medium for something like this however because of the style of the artist, a little too cartoon looking, which may be why people feel its disrespectful. It makes it seem more of like a caricature of the event instead of an artistic depiction. But no matter what anybody thinks or says, everybody has the right to create whatever they like and call it art.

As for the piece of art itself- if you can go to a legitimate art museum and see a few colors separated by perpendicular black lines and that is deemed to be art, then you can not logically argue this is not art. You can like it or hate, yes, but it IS art.

At least it is being auctioned for charity, and not sold to some upper class cunt who thought it would be cool to have a painting of someone shooting a rock star over his jacuzzi.

Style-wise it looks like a bad Ed Repka knock-off. The foreshortening between Dime and Gale is extremely poor too.

I’m a firm believer that art should never be prohibited from tackling any subject but most art based on tragedies and atrocities (Picasso’s ‘Guernica’ for example) at least conveys some pathos and respect for its subject. I see none of that here; just a blatant stab at shock value. Eddie’s presence under the drum riser implies mockery too if you ask me.

I can sort of see what the artist’s trying to do but if he thinks his work’s going to be remembered alongside truly great historical paintings in years to come then he’s dead wrong.

the biggest problem with that picture is that the guy is a terrible “artist”. seriously, look at his art. he obviously never finished art school. he’s like one of those guys who draw shitty thrash bands’ album covers. how anyone would pay for this juvenile effort at painting is beyond me.

i just saw the picture to be auctioned of depicting the end of dime bag. i think i would prefere to remember him alive and strumming his guitar. i know art is supposed to push the boundries, bur how far do you go?. people like to shock, but havent we been shocked enough. let our memories remain, let the men rest and respect his tallent. i was in sydney for the far beyond driven concert back in 1994. that show changed my life, it opened the door for me to explore music in many different ways. i saw the man and the band destroy, i was covered in sweat, bruises, and boy did i have a great time. i have my memories as i know many more do, share that with the world, share the beggining not the end. most of us never met the men, but some how united we share the same pain. share this love, dont make us #%&*^% hostile.
