Download: Cancer Bats
Beez goes head-first into the pit with the Cancer Bats.
After the release of their kick-ass new album ‘Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones’, it was clear to see at their recent low-key Relentless Garage show that Cancer Bats now have the mountainous grooves and riot-starting anthems to match the live shows that have brought them into the hearts of UK moshers over the past 3/4 years. When you see them being played in front of 40,000 maniacs in the bright Download sunshine, you have the right ingredients for one of the best sets of the weekend thus far.
Frontman Liam Cormier is off on a mad one from the off – leaping into the front of the crowd, screaming in peoples faces and scaring the living shit out of the opening couple of rows. The hulking ‘Darkness’ and ‘Lucifer’s Rocking Chair’ gives a little taste Southern grit to the Donington turf and ‘Dead Wrong’ melts faces with the greatest of ease.
Dropping their cover of the Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’ like an atom bomb and ending with the punishing ‘Sleep This Away’, the Bats turn Donington park into their own beer-swilling, bring-a-keg party zone. Whose house is this? The motherfucking Cancer Bats’ house, bitch!
