Dragonforce are completely at odds with their main stage predecessors, but it still works in the late afternoon sunshine. Their billion miles per hour power prog rather than being draining in the Download heat is actually refreshingly uplifting, particularly after Down’s Southern metal grooves.

Dragonforce are running around like maniacs but they know how to keep cool, with their micstands strapped with alcoholic refreshments, armed to the hilt with cocktail umbrellas and straws. Then the nurses arrive with trays of drinks for the band. And a polite request of ‘Tits’ and ‘Out’.

The lighter-in-the-air AOR interludes are like a cooling sea breeze. It’s like the Copacabana. On speed.
