Download Review: Black Stone Cherry & Suicide Silence
Beez gets more excited than a grown man should.
Suicide Silence
The deathcore scene has started to feel a bit emo in that it’s more about your haircut than it is your riffs. Thankfully, Suicide Silence have both good haircuts AND shit hot riffs.
It’s nigh on impossible to create the level of intensity that the band are capable of in a sweatbox venue, but that they still whip up a frenzy to the traditional hangover crowd speaks volumes. Great stuff.
Black Stone Cherry
Call it luck or whatever but where Download 2009 has really excelled is that the mid-tier bands have been excellent.
Hatebreed pulled it out of the bag when no one expected it yesterday and Black Stone Cherry have absolutely nailed it today.
The stand-out band of the modern classic rock revival, BSC have improved upon every visit to our shores and seeing a band free of irony that can play to a Def Leppard/Whiesnake/ZZ Top crowd and have them eating out of their palm is a beautiful thing.
When you look forward to a festival for months and it delivers even more than you expected, it’s an amazing experience. Download 2009 sums this up entirely.
