Def Leppard

If you thought tonight’s Def Leppard set would be heavily laced with irony, you would be wrong. Likewise, if you feel that things might have been lame in any way, shape or form, this really wasn’t. Hell, the Lep were so good that even ‘When Love And Hate Collide’ was incredible.

It’s very easy to forget just how many astoundingly good songs this band have but playing a complete greatest hits setlist to 70,000 people, Def Leppard roll back the years and provide the perfect end to this year’s festival.

A classic rock ending to a phenomenal weekend is something that should definitely be repeated next year. The only problem will be how can you possibly top a performance like the one seen tonight.

Whitesnake

While the decision to break up the band’s set with what seemed like a 20 minute guitar solo was an ill-conceived idea, Whitesnake are on damn good form throughout tonight’s showing and Coverdale has the look of a aman who’s having the time of his life.

The singalong moments for Here I Go Again and Is This Love? are nothing short of breathtaking and while Whitesnake might not have the hits that the bands around them on today’s bill do, they still pull out an absolutely huge performance.

WRENSTA

Def Leppard were indeed superb but from where I watched this – centre stage about 20 feet from the front – I have a completely different view on Whitesnake. A set list that omitted so many good songs it was shameful. That said, given how Coverdales voice failed to hit so many notes I am not sure I wanted to hear him sing Lovehunter, Sweet Talker etc.

Coverdale was very, very poor and the guitar solos pointless and self indulgent. A shame – one of my favourite bands.
