Well for a start there is no such thing as free if you believe this you may as well believe in the tooth fairy. Also RATM cd band not a live band – they were shite before and were even worse at Reading also they are money mungering coperate sells outs who’s music became hipocritical with the reunion- 100mil to play Leeds and Reading and with gaining a Christmas number one this confirmed it

Gig might be at donnington and as a bonus if you’ve bought a download ticket you get a ticket to the free show?
You won’t need to pay for a ticket, it won’t go anywhere if you do

The Rage gig is at Hyde Park, what they’re getting at is if Rage are in the country then hopefully they’ll stick around for Download…

I’m sure the free gig will be a different event from Download. It does however, make sense that RATM might play a paying show to subsidize a free show. It’ll probably be a similar deal to the free Limp Bizkit gig a few years ago.

I’m as eager as anyone for the next announcement, but the “hype machine” has gotten totally out of control. Last time the Download Facebook page mocked fans posting photos of the line-up poster with the names covered up in a childish “we know something you don’t know!” fashion. Since then they’ve tried to flogg us coffee-mugs for a festival when they’ve announced less than 10% of the acts, or gone on and on about the new design for their stupid mascott.
Now they tell us enough bands are booked to make another announcement… In two weeks time! Why the gap? If you’re sure enough that a band will play to tell us when you’ll announce it why not actually announce them and stop treating us like children or walking wallets. Do Copping and Co. think rock and metal are more about trying to get free publicity and being a brand-name than the music these days?

Pehaps the free gig will be Rage playing the Download main stage on the thursday, the day before the actual festival starts?? So a little treat for everyone who bought the 5 day ticket

Or it could be the fact that they are handling both Download AND the free RATM gig and next week there will be announcements about both……

Personally, I don’t want them there. They made an impact years ago and have been hugely influential, but there are loads of bands making an impact now who would be missing their shot at glory if RATM did play.

That said, would Download book a headliner if said headliner was putting on a massive free show in Hyde Park. How many people would want a Download ticket because RATM are headlining the festival if they could go to see the same band for free. Very few, and Download have to go big to sell 100 000 + tickets this year. Don’t think AC/DC alone would do it at £170 a pop.

The free gig is going to cost craploads to get to and get accommodation for in the longrun for people not living in or near to London. Another gig at a festival might be seen as more preferable for people who want to see their money going towards something more than one band

Do you not pay to get to Download as well or for accomodation once you’re there (even if it’s via an increased ticket price to camp)?

People please! RATM know we aren’t stupid;When they say “free gig” there will be a gig and it WILL be free. Why would a festival want to book an act that is doing a huge free show? People would choose go to the free show then the festival, so the festival organizers will book someone that is NOT going to play for free, and will lure in more people.
