Festival Maths: Download 2010 Rumours
As we approach the end of the year, it’s only right that we look forward to next year’s festival season and there’s been developments this weekend. Come on in for the full details!
You know how we like to play festival maths around these parts. We keep our ears to the ground, our eyes peeled and our noses twitching for any news on the continent that may give clues as to who will be on our shores for festival season.
Well, this weekend Rock Am Ring announced a batch of new names. Those of you in the know will be aware that RAR takes place the weekend before Download and with all of these acts close by, there’s every chance they may turn up at Donington park.
The latest additions to the Rock Am Ring bill that we think may end up at Donington are: Airbourne, Bullet For My Valentine, Motorhead, Volbeat, Rise Against and As I Lay Dying.
Here’s a teaser for you (because Gill and Beez couldn’t come to an agreement): Muse have been added as a headliner for Rock Am Ring. Could they headline at Download? Stranger things have happened at sea, haven’t they?
Get our list of bands who could potentially headline Download 2010 and 19 bands who could play Download’s Classic Rock Sunday.
Download 2010 tickets are on sale now!

Oh god, not Muse!
I’m still hoping for Ozzy or Aerosmith,
Unlikely, but a metalhead can dream?
Rammstein rumour’s been knocked down a bit I think.
There’s a rumour KISS are coming back, as they’ve got a free date on the Friday, but again, only two years ago they headlined, doubtful?
I suppose AC/DC are heavily rumoured, (aren’t they every year?)
Finally, I think there’s a strong chance that Metallica’ll be making a comeback. 4 years apart is like a decade apart from Download to them it seems. Haha!
first time I went this year! though it seems to be going downhill and getting more expensive, Bloodstock for me! Also, check out this! Metal Festival in Brighton next year we hope? http://www.myspace.com/mammothfest but best to look it up on facebook
Volbeat returning to Download would make my weekend!
I will vomit everywhere if Muse get added.
AC/DC have said they are looking forward to doing some festivals, i think they should be at the top any predictions we make!
I have AC/DC to headline the classic rock day with Van Halen and kiss to play creating the best thing ever!
Aren’t Muse a strong rumour for Sonisphere with Maiden?
Muse are pretty much self confirmed for Glasto, so hopefully Download won’t be tarnished
hmmmm sounds just like the 08 lineup to me, at least mix it up a bit. i mean airbourne and bullet are good bands in my oppinion and would like to see them but perhaps this year get some different bands and maybe keep one of them.
Don’t be so foolish, you know how it works.
Rock Am Ring now works rosters with other European festivals – the UK one is Sonisphere, hate to burst the bubble but Download is over, really it was over after the first year, but it is truly dead now.
I had a dream about this year being the last Reading Festival, was it a dream?
Back to Download – it’s in the wrong place on the Calendar, the location stinks for international travel (not that Knebworth is any better) and Donnington are so disorganised they’ve just lost the F1 contract to a 17yr deal with Silverstone because they couldn’t get their bloody arses in gear.
y all the muse bashing when so much other shite has played download!
@ Avangelist: I second what your saying about the placement in the calender whole heartedly!
Pissing it down around that time (not that later in summers better, but at least there’s a better chance for sun) and worst of all: right in the middle of exam season!!!!!!
Having missed KSE, DT and fucking MAIDEN at DL ‘07 for a maths exam 1st thing monday morning it truly is gutting about where its placed in the calender.
I know plenty of people who can’t go next year due to exams on the friday and monday, making Sonisphere a more realistic option.
@Avangelist: download is no way over.. what you on about? it sold out this year.
in all fairness. i can see sonisphere ending before download does. Lets face it, they practically gave half of their tickets away and yes i did win one. I know sonisphere has just started but it will never be in the same caliber as download is in now.
I went to sonisphere and i thought yeah its okay but download can not and will not be beaten. The weather at download is always awesome. Sonisphere’s weather was pretty lame.
The only good thing that sonisphere is beating download on is the walk to the arena. Thats it.. and i dont really mind the walk tbh.
and with the f1, it does not affect download at all as download is not located inside the circuit anymore. Its got nothing to do with it.. No possible way it could affect it.
and not everyone who goes to download are students. Everyone from 12 to 60 go. So your talkin shit there mate.
yeah you might miss it cause of exams but whats more important. Your future prospects or seeing a band you’ll most likely see in the future anyway. Oh and when your out of education, you can book the time off and then go. Man up
id say itll be closely linked with some of the bands playin graspop bleeding through and all shall perish hopefully..
I’m a grumpy old bastard and love the fact that I won’t be irritated by little 16 year olds jumping all over the place, getting pissed on cider at Download. HAHAHAHAHA!
I like the fact that Download is about a week after uni exams finish
As for Muse, I’d like it. But I like Muse. Also, Bon Jovi have a massive Download sized gap in their O2 residency.
if as i lay dying play id be so happppppy <3
muse are big enough to headline, dont care for Download this year will be around £200 once they announce bands. Bloodstock half that and is actually a metal festival, I can get to wacken and back for cheaper and its better organised.
Yes to Mosher Sam Mammothfest could be awesome hes talking to some incredible bands.
@Dani Gazolean but isnt it on the saturday and classic rock saturday wouldnt be anywhere near asgood as it being on a sunday
@ Dan theres this thing in August called Bloodstock and its shits over download for line up, price and easy to get to.
Wacken is better than Download both in lineup, price, location (even if it is in germany, flight and tickets alot cheaper than one ticket to download).
Download if fucking awful been once, disorganised, over priced and alcohol is crap. lineup is at random.
rise against, motor head and bullet im so jelous of my sister she is going with her mates and i hav to be in school
muse can headline glastonbury, why would they bother with dowload.
It’d be cool
And i’d come!
Mate, i paid nearly £200 for this, Maiden, Aerosmith, Van Halen and GOOD bands better be there.
And its the 30 anniversary!! So… Make it a good one!
I’d actually love to see Muse there
I also want Bloodbath and Athiest booked, they’re doing Hellfest and them two bands (especially Bloodbath) are VERY rare to see live
mark@ ive had the best times of my life at download. great fond memories. and i would love to have more so im going again. Not for the lineup really altho i do usually love the lineup. Thats like a bonus for me.
its all down to opinion really. you prefer bloodstock.. i prefer download. thats it.
one day, i might go to wacken and bloodstock but i will always go to download as it just feels like a 2nd home. Sounds gay and corny but its true.
Download used to be poorly organised but they are gettin better. The only problem i saw at download this year was the lack of water points but thats something small really.
Muse! They’re Indie crap! I do hope not!!!
There was enough townie, chav, scenesters there last year. Those idiots playing would double that attendance in 2010!!!
I’ve been to the last 8 ‘Doningtons’ and would have to say that the weather has been mostly great! I also went to sonisphere last year, it pissed it down on the saturday, and bloodstock 08 was bloody awful weather.
I think the more festivals the better, but no way is Download finished…its the best!
I’d fuckin’ love for Rise Against to play.
Why speak about the weather when comparing festivals? these two things got nothing to do with each others
the festival is dead, maybe not teenybopper commercial success wise, but line up wise for sure it’s a zombie content to be chewing on it’s own arm instead of chasing down mere mortals.
generic middle of the road line ups for the last couple of years. about as threatening as a new born baby and as metal as a pillow case.
download has got gradually worse over the years, but as i keep saying to people there simply aren’t enough big bands to keep it different each year without it getting more commercial headliners (mcr, lostprophets etc) i love maiden and metallica but dont want to see them at the same festival every damn year.
as for the weather, ive been drenched at download at least twice so whoever said its always sunny is talking bollocks!
i’m definitely doing bloodstock cos thats more my sort of music. however i just get this feeling there will be a few bands at download and sonisphere that i want to see. any chance of someone lending me 500 quid?!
People seem to be forgetting one thing and I will remind them.
Downlaod is a ROCK festival, not a metal festival but a ROCK festival. Hence why it gets such diverse bands.
This year’s lineup was FAR from being a let down – one of the best i nbrecent years in fact!
Sonisphere however seemed to have trouble keeping hold of some bands, and the weather was worse than that at Donny.
PLUS, at Donny, you get to choose to see over a hundred bands over 3 days, and 3-4 stages, as opposed to under 100 in two days over about 2-3 stages most.
Muse are brilliant, and they could play, but they won’t.
Metallica-Rammstein-AC/DC. My prediction.
Nobodys even confirmed yet
so how can the festival be “dead”?
Take your heads out your arses
fucking dicks
as for bloodstock
Looked at the line ups for the past few years
WHAT
A
CROCK
OF
SHITE
git a grip
according 2 metworld uk,metallica am plyin download nxt year
nooooooo no muse
no bullet and i’ll be happy
when you have over 100 bands over 4 stages , you’re not going to be able to see half of them , probably . some of their sets are only going to be 20 mins and tents may not have the capacity .
festivals are so overbooked now . i’d love things to go back to just having a strong 6 band bill on the main stage with full production with bands that have toured enough to put on a decent show and know how to play a big stage , with a second stage for younger/smaller bands to cover the change overs on the main . simples . you could knock a bunch off the ticket price then . maybe ? .
of course , its more profitable the more bands you can get to pay to play or labels to buy on , which is why you’ll get quantity not quality . i’m all for a mix of different things but sometimes thats going to leave the majority cold .
Deicide Behemoth Deicide to headline please.
ok.gj rock m ring
. its simple, let the muse come and invite tokio hotel and myabe jonas brother 2. and let the pussys rock
.
don’t forget to kick the others that are already mention.
fuck muse, no fuckin muse please
@Jaime are u fucking kidding u probs like all that shitty arse scene kid metal such as suicide shitty silence and 5FDP who last like 4 years then fuck off, which is what download books. Bloodstock books bands that are out of the mainstream that a true metal follower really looks hard into bands that dont often play the UK they’ve brought more bands to the UK for the first time than any of the other festivals.
agree with mark bloodstock looks brutal next year especialy the sunday! are cannibal corpse actully healining the sunday?
does any1 else remember when download used to consist of actual METAL bands? ie- metallica, slayer, megadeth, soulfly, machine head even slipknot. the organizers seem to have lost the plot by adding bands we have either never heard of or shite like my chemical romance as headliners. sort it out download for fuck sake. u havnt had a good line up since the sunday in 2004. SORT IT!!!
@Sam Ellis – Thompson as fantastic as it would be to have deicide headline a festival, never gonna happen. 70,000 people wouldnt watch them (the fools!) people were saying kreator to headline a few years ago, fantastic live band. but as the organisers said they can maybe sell 1000 tickets to a london gig.
these bands dont even get to headline bloodstock so why would they get booked at download… unless it was 3rd stage headliners. even slayer and machine head havent headlined festivals here and judging by the crowds they attract im sure they could top the bill.
my download predictions (im usually wrong) metallica definitely, ac/dc or rammstein and then some shitty scene band to keep the kids happy, or maybe im just cynical?
@dawz1 not seen anything about cannibal corpse headlining bloodstock, they normally say when a headline band is announced. wish they were tho, what a way to end the weekend!
Dan – did you even look at the line up for 2009? Who headlined it, I can’t remember. Oh yeah, it was Slipknot wasn’t it?
Asshat.
Why would Muse even be considered for Download? They’re Reading/Glastonbury/Isle of Wight hippy crap dull festival band. Let them go play in the cold, wet, rainy, muddy and miserable festivals where they belong and where the crowds are all tripping on acid and dont give a shit what they listen to as long as they can jump up and down alot!
FUCK MUSE …………………
Fuck all y’all Muse haters…
Dan13 – they’d be considered because MCR, The Offspring and Lostprophets (!?) have been headliners before. Ta-da~
Personal wish: Metallica/Maiden/Muse/GN’R. Any of ‘em.
GN’R, Metallica, AC/DC sounds good.
Looks like i will be at sonisphere too this year (only if maiden are confirmed)
Hellfest for 2010 me thinks. ive doneDownload the last 5 years, and great as it is,the winner with most european festivals is they announce the line up v.early, when people are planning what holidays to book off in the coming year. just a shame Dio has had to pull out, what with the bad tummy and all.
Going to rock am nxt year got my tickets ordered already, ive personally gave up on download ive been going to donington park since ozzfest in 2002 and i think the last good year download had was in 2006 Tool/Tallica/GnR and it will never b Donington with it never having the famous set up in the race course what is sad cause it is a part of rock/metal history
, i prefer a rock/metal fest to have a lil less chavs. As for Sonisphere went this year and had to say its one of the best times ive had at a fest it had the friendly atmosphere what download used to have
interesting Iron Maiden fans like Muse?? omg i dont consider them real fans.
I think it’s quite simple, wait for the line up to be announced!, if you like it buy a ticket if not go somewhere else!
I don’t really give a shit if anyone else enjoys the weekend, I’m going for my own enjoyment. It would be good to think that others are going to enjoy it as much as I have in the past but there are no guarantees, same as with life (except death before anyone picks me up on that one!)
So stop whinging about possible line-ups, who’s festival is better than who’s, it’s like the kids argument that my dad will beat your dad, you don’t know until it happens! and just get on with it! Not everyone of 70,000 or so people will be enjoying exactly the same thing & I say each to their own! I’m not a sheep, I like what I like & dislike what I don’t, it’s just that I’m not so opinionated that someone else shouldn’t enjoy what they do, which is where a lot of you who are arguing get it wrong!
I’ve come away from festivals finding that I’ve found a new band or 2 to get into who I would have otherwise not seen, or gone out of my way to listen to. (don’t get me wrong, I would rather not see Muse at Download, but if they are? I’ll go and watch another stage!, Simple!!)
Or perhaps some of you should be organising a festival yourselves, give everyone a better choice! oh wait a festival each weekend, to maybe see a band or 2 a few people actually want to see? oh yeah that’s called a gig & they already do them!!!
Well, I’ll see some of you at Download 2010, I’ll be there with a smile on my face & a beer in my hand, not giving a shit about the money, after all it’s only a weekend!! (well until the drugs wear off & the hangover kicks in anyway!)
omg! Liking more than one type of music! How DARE they! *shakes fist* what the fuck is omg anyway? does writing ‘oh my god’ really take up too much time?
At Download, I missed all the shitty bands for the ones I wanted to see, the thing about Download is it has a fucking awesome atmosphere, and whoever said Download has amazing weather all the time, you’re an imbecile, were any of you in RED CAMP last year? NO, YOU WEREN’T, I WAS, it was a fucking disaster and a mud bath from hell
Rammstein won’t headline download as sonispher is a uk exclsuive performance. A name I havn’t seen mentioned for headliner… MEGADETH anyone? surely they are big enough to headline now and endgame is an amazing album and it would be a good crowd pleaser in my book. AC/DC, Megadeth to headline with a 3rd which im not sure of
Bloodstock this year wins for for the sole reason that Devin Townsend, Fear Factory AND Behemoth are playing
System of a Down reunion rumours could very well result in a download appearance.
