Eddie Van Halen: “I Didn’t Fire Michael Anthony”
Eddie Van Halen has hit out at Michael Anthony, saying that the bassist left the band of his own accord.
Eddie Van Halen has recently claimed that he had nothing to do with Michael Anthony’s departure from Van Halen, saying that Anthony quit and was not fired.
Speaking out about the incident, Eddie said: “The funny thing is that everyone who quits the band always claims they got fired by me. Hey, I’m not the bad guy here. When (Sammy) Hagar left the band, Mike (Michael Anthony) went with him. Then we get back together with Dave (Lee Roth) and all of a sudden he wants back in. It’s like, “No, dude, you quit the band.” So my son became the bass player. But we didn’t give Mike the boot to have my son play. He was around. We didn’t have a bass player. “Hey Wolfie, you want to play?”
Anthony says that he never quit the band, and that he found out over the internet that he wasn’t going to be apart of their 2007 reunion tour.
Despite claims he was fire to make way for Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang Van Halen aka Wolfie, he does defend him: “Don’t judge his son Wolfgang too hard because he’s the innocent guy in this whole thing. There’s no reason for me to sit there and cry over it or whine over it, life goes on.”
So who do we believe? Hmmm.
