Emo Is The New Hair Metal?
Yes, we all hate emo. The whiny vocals, guitar-lite riffs and ridiculous fashion. Oh, and it’s massively popular. Just like hair metal. Read our blog on what the future might hold…
In the 80s, metal heads – true metal heads – hated hair metal, glam, sleaze and all it stood for; which wasn’t much of any substance – drugs, girls and looking good, all the trappings of narcissism and hedonism. While bands like Britny Fox and Pretty Boy Floyd sang about the ‘Girlschool’ and the ‘Gangster Of Love’ Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Iron Maiden were singing about war, the occult and society. Hair metal borrowed much of what metal had found for itself – from the music to the fashion – and appropriated it for millions of ‘rock tourists’ who needed something to pose to. A generation of metallers hated their younger brother, the skinny androgynous air-head sibling with lipstick on.
Likewise 25 years on hardcore, punk and metal created a monster. This time it was emo. The story of ‘emotional hardcore’ is much told, and remains as convoluted and contentious in its detail as that of hair metal (for whom we can variously blame Van Halen and/or Motley Crue and/or Aerosmith and so on…). Emo filled the same gap that hair metal did in the late 80s: deemed cool by the cooler end of the mainstream – ie: not very. While its lyrics are less about sex, drugs and partying, the sentiments of emo feel just as hollow and certainly vicarious: ‘I’m sad’, ‘misunderstood’, ‘things are bad (I hear)’ etc etc. But the music speaks to the X generation kids (you will be, as many of us at Hammer are) who, with their liberal parents of the 60s, had to strive harder to self-define and rebel: ‘a lip piercing? That’s cool son’.
We metal heads are – as humans – complex in our emotions, and while we want the world to love metal and understand our music, we kind of still want it for ourselves. We are by definition underdogs and Annotations Of An Autopsy on Radio 1 would ruin that. It is a statement, opting out of mainstream culture its gods and its mores. So emo was an unwelcome sibling the moment it was born.
Most things only become uncool and hated soon after the fact. Electro seemed so cool until 1986, as The Prodigy did in 1993 and Limp Bizkit in 2000. We just didn’t talk about it for ten years afterwards. But hair metal and emo were/are hated at their zenith.
So to recap, the similarities of emo and hair metal are:
real metal fans hate the music
real metal fans hate the fashion
And they hate it at the time, not afterwards
I also predict that just as no one mentioned hair metal in the 90s (not even the hair bands stuck up for it – Def Leppard to Skid Row, they all tried to convince the world they were relevant and never used hairspray) and made a massive comeback in the 00s, so emo will be a cool, ironic/non-ironic influence in ten or 15 years. And mark my words, it’s happening to nu-metal as we speak: old bands will make comebacks and new bands will inject nu-metal bounce. In retrospect things feel more fun and less threatening than when the thing you hate is/was a monkey on your back. I am reminded of Robb Flynn and I talking about the difference between ‘good hair metal and bad hair metal’ while having a wee at the Golden Gods aftershow some years back. I wonder if we’d have had the same conversation in 1996? Sure Kerry King won’t be extolling the virtues of Pretty Boy Floyd, but when asked for their guilty pleasures, bands like DevilDriver and Five Finger Death Punch are happy to cite Fall Out Boy.
And it’s not just the mainstream and the crossover that does it – thrash and hardcore anyone?
So get ready for an emo-comeback in 15 years or so. While it’ll be ironic to like the awfulness of Madina Lake and All Time Low you may find yourself discovering genuine treats that were tarred with the same brush. For every Nitro there’s a Motley Crue. So for every Hawthorne Heights there’s a… well, you’ll have to wait and see.

im sorry, emo is not the new hair metal!
Hair metal is AWESOME and emo is shite!
im scared …
really well written article. I think you’re right, the comparisons between 80’s glam and emo now are really silimar, and emo will make a comeback in the future. Let’s just hope it dies out quickly now though. I’m sick of most people at my school looking like… well…. that abomination of a picture used here.
Thats quite frightening really, i was thinking of exactly the same thing earlier on the way up to college when i was listening to the mighty Steel Clahnther…Gill can read minds now, this only adds to the legend haha
While the comparisons raised in this article no doubt hold true I feel that the general vibe from this article is that hair metal WAS bad back in the day, and emo IS bad now.
I would therefore suggest that there’s a certain level of hypocrisy at work here; this very website often features bands with no real musical substance, who are only popular because of their hair and appearance. So then, to stem the stream of ‘rock tourists’ from frequenting the REAL metal fraternity perhaps you should leave such bands to the news pages of Kerrang eh?
I was saying this to my mate around a month ago, or at least along the lines of, I wasn’t around in the 80s but I’ve seen enough documentaries and read enough interviews to understand that real Metalheads were pissed off at glam as it was placed under the banner of ‘Metal’ e.g. ‘oh your a Metalhead, so you into Warrant?’ and was against everything Metal stood for. Now, I’m 16 and to the less informed majority, there is no difference between my chemical romance and Malefice, so people throw me in with the catogory of ‘wrist slitter’ and I have hated for emo as it is the music of kids who think they are ‘rockers’ but couldn’t name a single Sabbath song. SO maybe I’m wrong, but I do think that emo is the new hair metal (blokes wearing make up in both) but I can appreciate some of the music from that time, I think Skid Row are quality and I have a soft spot for Def Leppard but I can’t see myself rocking out to the Black Parade in 10 years time
@George would you have said that in the 80’s though?
Y’see you say you hate emo NOW, but maybe if you do give it a decade or two and look back, youm ight find yourself thinking “Hey, that wasn’t too bad actually”
Good article. Personally, I don’t think emo will see the same resurgence years from now. It’s just too false. In my opinion there are 2 reasons why hair metal returned:
1) The musicians were talented (i.e Racer X, Nitro etc)
2) Those that sang about snorting coke of a hooker’s beaver were sort of believable.
Emo doesn’t have that credibility. I can’t think of an outstanding emo guitar player and I can’t believe that someone who lives in a detached house in the Cotswolds and wears girls jeans is depressed.
Emo is less about music and more about fashion which is why I think we won’t see it again when it’s gone.
I could be wrong but I hope I’m not. Good thought provoking piece Gill. Thanks for sharing your piss chat with Robb flynn
Hehehe – so just as I was a Glammy in the 80’s (girls were allowed to like Hair Metal!) and deemed not a true metalhead – my emo/scene daughter will carry on the tradition over the next 20 years
It’s all bollocks because most Glammy’s liked alot of the NWOBM & Classic Metal as well – they just dressed better than the mullet heads (and had tighter pants, bigger hair & eyeliner but I digress……)
So my 13 year old who dresses like an emo/scene kid & loves emo bands such as MCR, Framing Hanley, Boys Like Girls & Hey Monday can also call on a childhood filled with Punk such as The Ramones & The Damned, NWOBM such as Motorhead and Iron Maiden, Goth from the Cult, Sisters of Mercy & The Mission, Classic 70’s Rock from Queen, Stones, Led Zepp & Deep Purple & my Glam background of Bowie, T-Rex & Kiss through to Def Leppard, Poison, Alice Cooper, Tigertailz & the mighty Motley Crue – She knows what she likes and she likes what she knows – She’s never going to be into Rap or R’n'B – So what if she likes teenagers with floppy fringes – she’s a teenager with a floppy fringe!
A good and scary article, however I think hair metal retained the balls and the technical riffing of metal, Van Halen being an example, but most importantly it was imaginative and new.
On the other hand, all emo music lacks the imagination, and originality of hair metal and all other genres of metal, to compare “Shout At The Devil” to “Welcome To The Black Parade” is somewhat ludicrous as the new emo music simply lacks the balls, the energy and the originality of The Crue.
And so despite being a strong argument, you cannot compare the likes of Crue and Van Halen with Paramore and MCR.
Emo is the least of our worries these days. Its the boring reproductive “Deathcore” that is riddleing the underground scene right now and every offshoot of that like Technocore and Crabcore. Every single band sounds the same and stick to the same formula. Chug for 30 secs, Breakdown, Chug some more with techno keyboards then another breakdown……all the while checking their fringe is across their face and doing that STUPID running on the spot thing, and the ridiculous crabcore squatting. funniest thing is, when its not popular anymore, all these bands will either disappear or change their style i.e they are Trend Whores!!
people will always be nostalgic for the music of their childhood, i can’t help but look back on Motley Crue and have a chuckle. Same with my wee brother and Limp Bizkit – he realises it’s crap but its associated with happy memories
so it would be v weird if people who grew up with emo don’t look back on it with a rye smile
Music is pretty bad
But most emo girls are nice/good looking
Anyone agree
agree.
I can see the point of the article but i think glam rock/metal actually wrote kick ass songs, they were just more light-hearted than it’s thrash metal sibling. Twisted Sister get covered by black metal bands nowadays! Skid Row – awesome, Motely Crue – awesome.
No one likes emo, even people into folk and indie, hip hop, r’n'b, pop, electronic. it’s the bad bedfellow of all music. It’s a spawn of some evil sounding, hard hitting genres except the child is deformed and ragged.
Any now theres shit like crunkcore which is a perversion to music, it’s kicking music in the teeth, stamping on it’s head. It’s a terrible world for youngsters who like linkin park and emo and have never heard Rust in Peace or British Steel. Fuck that, they don’t even know who Sabbath or Zeppelin are; just some oldman’s band to them. Sad, sad times.
Emo isn’t the problem, the problem is bands like Bring Me The Horizon and other assorted deathcore bands (although there is some good deathcore, the proportion is extremely low, a bit like metalcore/Mastodon) which are swamping the underground, they’re a lot worse than mainstream emo kids/”emo” music.
I want to say to metall hammer…well done.
Not because you have called out a ridulous genre of pop. Not because you have come up with a perfect example from history to prove a point about today, and not because you have made some predictions which may very well come true.
Well done because there are probably a million little emo kids out there who buy metal hammer every month thinking the genres cross over. These are your clients, your customers and your pay masters…but you are still willing to tell them what you think irrespective of what impact it may have on circulation.
YES! i have thought this for sometime now, but to me there only the same because they are hated my true metal heads(although few years back i did listen to gnr and crue till i was saved by ride the lightning and the mighty pantera)
and not because they get air play (i would hate it if bands such as eyehategod and LoG got airplay that would just kill it) no because we get put in the same bracket as them!
Also whats this feckin deathcore? and Bring Me The Horizon i thought they were emo??
I think we need a new band of trendkillers!
@Tallicahead87 totally agree, Metallica was the antidote to glam, Punk was the antidote to clean cut pop rock and self indulgent guitar solos, (not completely sure, so sorry if I got that wrong) there doesn’t seem to be a definitive ‘trendkiller’ band, I want a band who is as pissed off and aggressive at the rock music world today (i.e. aimed at 10 year old girls and a lack of attitude) My generation need a Metallica, a Sex Pistols or a Pantera!
The whole emo look has been manufactuered to look shit. The music of today, which a large amount is absolute dog with no depth or originality, isnt what emo is about. bands like Pg 99 and City Of Caterpillars are what true emo is about. And is basically what the title suggests. EMOTIONAL HARDCORE. I get abuse thrown at me for wearing anything related to any form of metal music. This is now. Its wrong and its shit and people like us who know the difference between true quality and true bollocks get the worst of it because of some posing bastard in his Iron fist hoody and piercings in places only a faggot woud have them. Couple of years time it will be a laughing stock. Bands in the same form as Steel Panther will rip the piss out of it. We just need to hold on and listen to Brucey tell us what to do until then. btw DICKINSON FOR PM
I’ve always said Emo was the new hair metal in the way that the metal community dispised it at the time.
You rarely see an emo kid these days, its an endangered species, and rightly so.
I’ve seen on this comment section a few times that the current annoyance in the metal underground is generic deathcore like whitechapel. Which is totally true. At least BMTH have hooks. You’re telling me you’ve never had the urge to go crazy to Chelsea Smile? Liars.
Judge not a book by its cover.
Emo is dying out tbh. Scene is the new look. Skinny jeans hanging off your arse, a pair of vans, a hat which is part rolled up and a little gay side-sweeping fringe. At my college theres a group of scene boys who walk about in their BMTH and ADTR tops and they don’t have a fucking clue about real metal like LOG, Machine Head etc, etc. It’s sad cause they all think they’re metal and “hardcore” when there all fags.
I dont really get it. Why do we have to categorize everything. Ofc i hate emo , especially their mood.I am Metallica fan for ever, love other bands like Slayers and so on , but i listen to some GnR or even Aerosmiths. Whats wrong about it? Im not saying that emo is good , but what does it go to do with good oldschool music? Is it oldschool musics fault that they try to suicide or cut their veins?
emo bands suck, but BMTH is a exception, they are truly great, disagree if you’d like, but the fact still remains that they’ve got some very good material.
Emo is nothing for us to worry about, it’s the stuff infecting metal right now, ie: Metalcore, Deathcore. Or even worse, metal bands trying to be emo, like Bullet For My Valentine.
Great blog, Gill but the article below this one is about The Used and you just said real metalheads hate emo? Wtf?
Totally agree with this article, but anyone who says GnR, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, suck are just being sore asses. I listen to Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash, Doom, amongst many others but that doesn’t mean you can’t listen to good ’80s, Fuck I listen to Lady Gaga.
Who gives a shit? Listen to whatever you want.
Emo is the music disease of 21st century, that’s a fact.
When appaling teens and fading ex-Holliwood ’stars’ mees with it as well, it’s already like the EBOLA of music.
Hair metal has brought legends and really good influences – once upon a time qulity in music used to be more than shite. Now’s the opposite.
The point is that there are people, who KNOW about GOOD music and introduce it properly to the kids.
I see many teens, calling themsleves ‘metal-heads’ have no idea about emo – they just call that way everything they don’t like, despite the sound.
And difference there IS.
This editorial sits somewhat uneasily with MH’s constant promotion of Steel Panther. Double standard?
It’s all heavy rock, fellas. I personally dislike emo and anything “shouty-core” but love black metal, thrash and good old hard rock. Glam is an art form of it’s own – listen to Reckless Love, they’ve got it nailed just as well as Steel Panther.
And it matters not one iota how those how listen to it or perform it actually look like. If you are bothered by such triviality you are not a fan of music, you are a tart.
i’m sorry metal hammer but what aload of complete shit. Hair metal is amazing. And the fact you have just insulted it like this has really pissed me off. Your a magazine that always raves about bands like poison and motley crue, even steel panther and you’ve just been complete hypocrits.
To say hair metal never stood for anything either was aload of crap. Ok they glammed themselves up but whats wrong with people that like metal to wanna look good. I love metal from motley crue to iron maiden but i also take pride in my appearnace. and yh there ltrics are cheesy but i wanna listen to a song that makes me feel good, its feel good metal.
There songs aint all just about sex too, you listen to bands like poison, motley crue, aerosmith they have meaningthul accoustic songs. The fact this article was published is a complete joke.
Ohh hell no – don´t even think about comparing hair metal/glam to emo – no no no no.
At least glam metal bands had/have fun – and they come up with some catchy tunes.
I like all metal from glam to some black metal – but emo – oh God no please just kill me…
what the shit that article saying??.. there is no such as this think.. emo. emo try to desapear
Erm, im a ‘true metal’ fan and i like hair metal ALOT. Thats ridiculous to say!
Maybe.
Emo bands appear care more about the Hair and image than their actual music.
this little rally seems to have forgotten about the very credible and respected emo from the formative years of the genre such as Fugazi and Rites of Spring.
The monster people classify as ‘emo’ today is little more than pop-rock/pop-punk with eye liner and a heavy grip on a metaphor dictionary.
Yes is is abhorent to see 14 year old boys and girls claiming to be making the emo niché their own whilst clinging on to a media construction so hard that they are missing the realisation that the music they have chosen is a vapid husk. But I am sure many posters here got in to their respective hardline true metal elitist mind sets through starting along the same lines, except of course it wasn’t so lame when they did it, because y’know they listen to lamb of god now, regardless of how big their trousers or how long their wallet chains were.
the self affirming cycle of superiority is interesting, but also just a tad naive.
I’m 41 years old now and been there – done that and all that LOL, I can remember the Glam Rock days, OMFG !! I was after some true headbaning mosh pitting metal when that came out, I started to listen to a lot more old punk, Discharge, Exploited, GBH kinda guys, still had the rough ready and f**k u music I needed, and now days, well, more than enough metal to go around, thank you metal heads everywhere for your music, its my lifes blood for me to live.
So, in ten years time we,re going to look back at emo and laugh about it? Doubtful. Laugh AT it? Hell I do that now! And I think Dr Feelgood has alot more credibilty than the Kack Parade. Compared to emo, Glam sounds like Death Metal.
I like All Time Low.
I think the reason hair metal has been accepted these days is happy element and sense of fun it has to it, i don’t think listening to emo can ever be a fun experience. It’s just to depressing.
I’ve always said this hahaha
Both are shit.
This article couldn’t be more wrong. Hair metal is actually good. (and i find it hard to belive Hammer is criticising it, especially as Hammer often runs features on Motley crue and similar bands) and for ages last year they were bumming Steel Panther!
Emo on the other hand sucks and has never gained any metal fans interest at all!
If all of you who are complaining would look at the bottom of the article, it says for every Nitro whoever they are, that there is a Motley Crue to kick ass essentially, face it, glam had a ton of shit bands, but for everyone of those bands there was a good one, thats what they’re trying to say, where as Emo has nothing. So stop fussing and just turn up the metal and keep headbanging.
I liked the article, bar the absolutism of “REAL METAL FANS” which is such an ironic statement in itself. So much for diversity
This is all a load of bollocks really. Sorry Gill, but there is no comparison. I listen to some “hair metal” and have for 20ish years. Hell, I still get shit for listening to Poison, Cinderella and Skid Row!
Emo on the other hand is pure dog spunk.
So in summary: “hair metal” good, emo dog spunk!
Hair Metal was… Metal, Emo is not. Emo is a huge stinking pile of shit.
I think the main difference is Balls.
Bands like Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison and Twisted Sister wrote some great song. They were just trying not to be too serious about what they were doing… that’s all.
I’m more of a Death Metal fan, but from time to time listening to TS’s Stay Hungry or Ratt’s Out of the Cellar is kinda fun… But I can never listen to Emo…
Is MetalHammer trying to go Emo on us?!?!
Guys, you’re already very “Mainstream”, and there’s less and less extreme Metal, please no Emo shit…
YEAH !!!! I really fuckin hate em !
Fugazi are the best band mentioned here, closely followed by Bring Me the Horizon.
Hair metal is fucking wank (apart from Van Halen). It can all fuck off, I’d rather listen to Saosin or The Blackout than Warrant or Poison anyday.
i would say that all of that is completely true. and yes, emo is shit, and hair metal is also shit (although not as shit as emo)
Listen to Eddie Van Halen play and then say there is no substance. The problem with this arguement is that there where bands in the Glam phase that fuckin’ owned.
With the length of time emo has been around it should by now have a Van Halen or a Kiss, but it doesn’t.
Emo’s only contribution has been scene girls – fuck it thats actually a pretty big contribution.
has no one realised that you all saying emo is crap, but hair metal is great is only supporting This theory of no one liking it at the time
I fuckin hate emos its not the new any thing its just a load of lady boys who think they are metal
Nicely written, but you miss a fundamentally crucial point – lots of hair metal was and still is REALLY good. Emo on the hand, is pretty much universally terrible. This isn’t something which we’ll all like in a few years time… it’s just terrible.
The real metal is anything that dares challenge the establishment and fuck the consequences. That is why I love slayerrrrarrrrgggghhh, Machine head and lamb of god- they have got off the fence and stand up for what we would all like to stand up for- yeahhhh!!
Does nobody read the whole article through.
never.
i am enjoying that every band with an outlandish haircut is labeled emo, for instance BMTH, undeniably terrible? yes. emo? no
there is, as there is in all genres some shining examples of how to do emo correctly (fugazi) and as there is in all genres a glut of utter shit.
in todays music-media the term emo doesn’t have any bearing on where it actually came from, instead attached to the same black-clad faux suicidal losers that used to occupy the ‘goth’ niché a few years back.
oh well.
agree
Hair Metal Rules and Emo sucks…Simples!!! \m/
im scared too… lol
teeth of gods is right, all of this stuff that gets labelled as emo nowadays like paramore and my chemical romance is simply pop punk. emo started with bands of rites of spring, embrace, fugazi, moss icon, mohinder and heroin. This mislabelling has got out of hand now. emo is good music, pop punk is not (for the most part)
they all look emo to me.
Hair metal will never die as long as steel panther are around
Nice one Gill, who knew you had a brain in there after all!
i never really understood why everyone hated hairmetal
i always liked whitesnake; who i thought were blues rock and white lion; who have some thought provoking songs (El Salvador, When the children cry, Little Fighter ect.)
my little brother, 14, has a mate who was an emo until he heard fall out boy and thought “well if this is what emo is now then i don’t want to be part of this shit!” the real emo died along time ago or like my brothers friend just assimilated into the generic metal crowd.
also, all “TRUE” metal heads are c**ts!!
UP THE IRONS!!!
This is werid coz i was saying this exact same thing too my friend not long ago about how its sorta like the 80’s hair metal vs Thrash Metal. And as i’m proud to call my self a True Metalhead i have to say i fucking Hate these Scene kid, emo, Faggots! Their music, fashion and their attitude!! and another thing is i hate the fact some of these little emo faggots say they like Bands like ‘Iron maiden’ or ‘Slayer’ its really sicken’s me to think i live on the same planet as them
But in a werid way it makes me more proud to call my-self Metalhead in a kind of patriotic way
emos ARE NOT METAL!! first of all…
and second… the hair metal is… cool(?)… is acceptable…
Does this meen we get 10 years without EMO? Oh dear Lemy that would be good
Wow lotsa anti-gay stuff going on! I’m a true rug muncher, pit monkey and metalhead. These emo kids aren’t faggots…..they are just fakes. Enough with the gay insults!
People can listen to what ever the hell they want.
But there are people who appriciate good music and then there are emo’s with there shite they listen to.
But its their choice you gotta keep the teeny boppers happy
It’s justr another musical trend, like cock rock, Nu-metal, grunge, pop punk, yada yada yada…
So really, it won’t last…
What a BLASPHEMY to compare fabulous earthshaking funny times of hair metal to this pessimistic crap?
Hair Metal Rocks! emo dont .|,,|
You re all missing one vital point.
Personal oppinions.
These people who actually give a fuck about what a magazine writes about a style of music, need to get a grip. It’s pathetic.
I listen to every style of music you can think of. Everything from Black Metal to dub to rave to the cheesiest-of-cheesy folk-rock from the 70’s. But even I refuse to listen to emo. It has no artistic/social/personal merit whatsoever and it’s only purpose is to make cunt record company execs money. Emo is the opiate of the “oh, woe is me” teenagers.
I personally don’t agree that Emo will be a “New Hair Metal”, because it is no longer “cool” to be an Emo. This is mostly because of the internet trolls that deem somethings to be “un-cool” as soon as they become “cool”. In short, it’s “uncool” to like something that’s “cool”. Despite this, Hair Metal is similar in that it partly revolves around fashion. Anyone who listens too anything other than pop these days are automatically classed as “emo” in my school. Even though I listen to Slayer, DevilDriver, LoG and carry a Slipknot bag, I am greeted at school by “Slipnot is shit” and “fuck off you emo”. WTF?! Metal is not emo! Just because it’s alternative and emo is alternative, does not make them the same.
Good feature Gill.
Personally im really diggin this new band five finger death punch and i think they r goin to push metal into a new direction and for this im very excited and as for emo FUCK THAT that shit belongs on fuckin mars i do not understand it but thats okay at least i admit it lets see the emo kid say they admit they dont know wat zeppelin, sabbath, deep purple,or blue cheer are and you know what i love about bein sixteen and goin to school and confronting these emo kids is….its the fact that they try to hide behind how hard their music is and i just laugh
im scared too chris
we all are scared but on the plus side
emo bashing anyone!
<>>
^^^^owned by the above.
there is srsly no coherent point to this article. and the recap of the similarities between emo and hair metal makes NO SENSE. real metal fans hate hip-hop music. real metal fans hate hip-hop fashion. is hip hop the new hair metal? course it isn’t.
oh, and how on earth can you compare the history of emo and hair metal as similarly convoluted, i will never know…
‘whiny vocals, guitar-lite riffs and ridiculous fashion’
Bring me the Horizon?
I embrace emos.
and by that I mean that I hug them randomly.
this makes them happy and confuses them- which causes me much amusement as they try to keep an outward air of general gloom.
If you think about it, this is the best course of action: punching someone who self-harms is likely to not affect them, so hug them.
Forever will the long hair be the true hair of metal.
Steel Panther will destroy the Emos and return the reign of Glam for a thousand years.
Ok, I loved paragraph four…
I think emo fashion looks good – on actual emo’s. And not the people who are doing it cuz it’s fashionable. I’m not too bothered about some of the music (I said SOME).
Will it be a big deal if it does come back? I dunno… I’ll be listening to too much metal to notice
