After rocking the house at the Camden Roundhouse as part of the iTunes festival, two members of Europe stopped by The Monarch in Camden to join local metal covers band, Metalworks. Guitarist John Norum and bassist John Leven kicked out the jams on their world-conquering hit The Final Countdown with the band being fronted by Cavalar frontman, Luca Ravasio.
Amit Sharma reports: “I was jamming some Maiden with Metalworks, took a break to cool off outside and saw the two Johns (Norum and Levin) walking across the road. I thought I might as well say hi and see if they fancied coming in to play The Final Countdown with us. They were a bit sceptical at first but heard the band from outside and thought it sounded cool.
“John Norum came up and did The Final Countdown and then both Johns got up for ‘Black Night’ by Deep Purple. After playing, they hung around outside and were true gents – taking some time to have their pictures taken and meet some fans.”

Metalworks is a Camden based rock / metal covers project that has been running for over 10 years, and has had members of Iron Maiden, Sisters of Mercy, Judas Priest and Adam Ant swing by for a jam. It’s every Sunday at The Monarch on Chalk Farm Road from 8pm.
Europe play this weekend’s Sonisphere festival.
