Exclusive! Marilyn Manson: “I’m Back With Evan Rachel Wood”
After some shocking behaviour in recent interviews Marilyn Manson is back with the woman he loves… “that’s kind of breaking news, you can be the first one to say that.”
You’ve been to the pits of despair and back, how does one pick ones self up and get inspired and motivated after such an identity crisis?
“I think I’m not afraid to be me. Sometimes [it] happens when you get to this point in your career, and there are so many things that have happened and influences that you’ve had, besides the influences of the things that have inspired you. Sometimes you feel awkward being what you’re best at, you feel like you have to be something new. But I think that a lot of people will agree that me being me at my best [is what] I need to be. I think that that really paid off because I’m back with Evan, that’s kind of breaking news, you can be the first one to say that.”

What else is new?
“We’ve just been released from our record contract with Interscope so I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices – the music videos – things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they clearly wouldn’t have allowed me to make that video. So we started writing new songs on the road – a bit like [David Bowie’s album] ‘Aladdin Sane’ – I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [expected].
You don’t strike me as someone who wouldn’t put their foot down with a label…
“You’d be surprised how much restraint my creativity had which ended up often times in my life, not want to make music because I was so restrained from the music that I wanted to make – what they would allow, they would put out, what ideas they would allow to be conveyed in these videos. At least half of my creative output has been squashed, so now I think people can expect a whole lot more.”

“Yeah, I think it will be more badass , I think it’s going to be more romantic maybe. Self abusive.”

I’ve listened to Marilyn Manson for years now and I’ve got to say on the last record he just sounds bored. Back when he done antichrist, mech animals and Holywood it seemed that another great album was round the corner, then we got landed with golden age which was alright but not great, then the same with Eat me drink me, some decent tracks but as an album, not great.
Sadly it’s the same story with high end, except there are even less decent tracks on it. I listened to it for about a week and haven’t listened to it since, not even bothered to put it on my ipod…
I don’t know what he has to do to get that burning anger back but I do know that if bands like metallica could find their way back from st anger to put out death magnetic, and megadeth can still fuck us up with Endgame, then Marilyn Manson has at least one great album left in him.
can only hope it is the next one because he and his band are quickly losing credability… he better kick arse at glasgow academy!

Will we be expecting better albums because in my view his last decent album was golden age of grotesque EAT ME DRINK ME had ONE see it ONE decent song whereas High End Of Low was terrible all the way

i miss the old band
the last manson album i really enjoyed was holywood, the golden age of grotesque had a few ok songs,but i havent really like the last couple of albums.he used to be one of my fave artists but not his current stuff.

Yeah i was feeling well happy before that last line! I wanna hear a more mature Golden Age type album – something more industrial/electronical rarther than the minimalist stuff he’s been selling of late.
I’m a huge fan butcould care less who he’s dating. His next album is in the works and that’s good news, but inspired by 70’s Bowie isn’t what I really wanted to hear. He doesn’t really need to worry about the record labels, he should learn something from what his exbuddy Trent Reznor did and put out music without a label.

The music has not been the same since John5 left/got kicked out of the band. If I were Manson I would seriously consider trying to get that guy back because he wrote some of the greatest riffs for Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood. The latest two albums lack some serious heavy guitar work. They are pretty decent still, but they certainly don’t hold a candle to earlier albums like Antichrist Superstar, Mechnical Animals, Holy Wood and The Golden Age of Grotesque.
Marilyn Manson the band and the person is an evolution. Manon would not be Manson if he did things the same on every album. The attraction to the band and the man is the diversity in his music. Too many times I hear people saying they want another Antichrist Superstar. That will never happen and cannot ever happen. We are should be rejoicing that we still have someone like Manson to inspire us. Enjoy all that he gives us while he is still here.

when he was just with the band he managed to create great music: portrait of an american family, antichrist superstar hollywood and mechanical animals.
Manson man can you not see they are just using you?!?! whay do you think evan is back with you? she has not a single project in the pipeline!! you always want to open people’s eyes, when are you going to open yours???!
plus leave the effin drugs and booze, get a “normal” girlfriend, ie, which is not seeking attention and you should be ok!

Can’t wait to hear the new album. Finally saw MM live this last tour – just glad he had the longevity and I don’t think he’s even close to being done yet.
I love all of Manson’s work. I enjoy his romantic albums in a different way than his more political,anti-everything albums. it shows his inner self in a different way. I like the romantic Manson as much as Iike the shock rock Manson.
