Machine Head’s Robb Flynn tells the full exclusive story of him quitting the band in the new issue of Metal Hammer on sale now.

Speaking exclusively to Metal Hammer scribe Mick Wall, Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn reveals all about the fight between him and bassist Adam Duce that led to his departure from the band last year, their reasons for attending therapy sessions and where they go from here…

So you were definitely going to leave the band?

Robb Flynn: “The decision was made in my head. The [day after the fight in Paris Adam] came over to talk to me about it. I mean, I didn’t tell everybody I was quitting, it was a decision I made in my head. But, you know, we talked, and talked for a lot longer, and decided to try and… That this was more important to us. We worked so fucking hard to get where we are. It would have seemed like the hugest of failures.”

Is therapy working for you?

Flynn: “I think so, man. You know, we’ve been friends for 20 years. We’ve been in a band for 17 of those years. We work our ass off, we tour our ass off, and sometimes, you know, shit starts bubbling under that maybe we should discuss and we’re not good at it. It gets swept under the rug and shit builds up and it comes to a head sometimes.”

Long live therapy!….machine head wouldn’t be the same without either rob or adam….they’re just about getting the recognition they deserve….it’d be ashame if they quit when they just peaked

You’re right. Although how on earth they can improve on As the Palaces burn and the Blackening I can’t imagine. Works of genius. It sounds like they are trying to sort it out after reading the article (us subscribers get it earlier)

Sorry I meant Burn My eyes. The other album is by those other geniuses or is it geniiiiii, lamb of god.

Yh..burn my eyes was one hell of a debut album!!…one of the most under-rated debut albums…then they had that era where they were either loved or hated….but their last album and that performance at download 2007 just killed it big time!

Vazzer* what the fuck happened there? As the Palaces Burn? Thats fuckin’ Lamb of God…

But, i hope therapy works out for Robb. It would be sadenening if we lost Machine ‘Fuking’ Head!

Yeah, I did correct myself. You obviously did not read the next entry. (Listening to Aesthetics of Hate as i type.) It was the burn words in both titles. never been any good at words really- unlike Robb Flynn.
