The first big name to be rumoured for next year’s Download festival is…

Virtual Festivals are reporting The Prodigy as a strong rumour for next year’s Download festival. At the current point in time, this is the only name being touted for the festival while rumours also continue to swill about a July festival set to take place at Knebworth featuring Metallica, Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers as headliners.

Metallica i can believe…
RHCP and Muse headlining is just WRONG!

AC/DC and Rammstein should be the other headliners :P

Mmmm.

do like The Prodigy

metalscobes666

it couldnt get much worse than last years fucking god awefull layout and headliners

well i suppose it could mcfly could be headlining oh sweet zombie jesus im just going to shut up now incase i give the bastards ideas

So sounds like another shit set of headliners. Think I’ll be off to Graspop again instead.

always shit line up…….download is not metal festival anymore…after few years big names in rap n shit wil headline the download…lol…

the download guys don’t seem to be aiming the line at the metal fans any more bring back the real monsters of rock back in the day the line ups were outstanding,
not even a third of the bands that go on the bill now would have ever made it on to monsters of rock,

Blythie

Last year was the first time in 5 years I didn’t go to Download because the line-up was so shit. If The Prodigy headline any of the dates, I will boycott it because whether you like them or not, they do not belong on the bill of a metal festival.

Dizzy Rascal last year, Prodigy this year – bollocks to the lot of ya!!!

bring back back download 2006!!! TOOL DEFTONES hope chi gets better
prodigy were good tho at download last time

if by some coindcidence the Live Nation Download organisers are reading this…. last years line up was wank, learn from it – get better names…. and revert back to what you were booking pre 2007

Blythie, i know where your comin from, i dont think they belong on it at all, definately not as a headliner!
..but if someone has to be there that dosen`t quite fit in, then it could be a lot worse.

if they get 3 or four good, and i mean good headlining bands then i`ll sit up and start paying attention and actually maybe go to a download:
Devildriver, Chimaira, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Malefice..these are the names we need back again!

ps they all have albums out next year so fingers crossed….

and i think Slipknot and Metallica will be there, definately Slipknot as their set for the All Hope tour only had two of their latest album tracks, and its the ten year anniversary of Slipknot (the first album) in June…?

Throw in a little MFH then i`ll be goin!

Tony Martin

I hear Take That might be headlining Sunday night at Download…? Well, it would fit in with the attempt to get more kiddies to go along. Oh, hang on…=)

The Prodigy? Are you shitting me?

Headlining third or second stage, sure thing. But main stage? You sir can fuck right off.

2007’s line up was pretty good, but I didn’t bother with it this year, not exactly much attracting me to it…

Ah well lets just hope Live Nation get their heads out of their asses and give us a line up woth £150…

the good thing about Download is that even if the the headliners are absolutely Shite to the point that All self respecting Defenders of the Faith express a strong desire to kill themselves, there will always be at least 10+ good metal bands playing so we can get the best out of what appears to be a shite lineup.

Emperor

first big name rumoured??? well done shit heads cos slipknot have been rumoured for 2 fucking years and their 5 times bigger than prodigy

micheal

why cant they hav slipknot headline it would be a gig then

JaiiJaii

Urghhh- it shud be something like Bodom, or fucken Deicide. . . geez.

[...] the official Rock Am RIng site for all of the bands announced thus far. In related news, the first big rumour for 2009’s Download festival also broke courtesy of ‘Hammer earlier this [...]

Look at it like this,it could be worse for a rumour. Going with logic I can see that Rock Am Ring will be hell of a lot better than download this year.

Bloodstock fest in my own view beat download.

Anyone else on this forum old enough to remember when Donnington racetrack was holy ground and only the mighty played it?? What the hell’s happened to it all? England – the home of heavy metal and we can’t seem to put on the sort of festivals that they can over on the continent. I’ve not been to Monsters Of… sorry, “Download” (pffff…) for years now as I could probably count on one hand the acts that I want to see out of every line up and leave the rest. Not worth it to shell out all that money for a ticket, travel costs and camping for festival that there’s only about 5-6 bands that I’m keen on seeing.

The Joms

I dunno why you all are whinging over this. LiveNation have said they will rotate the headliners at Download. It all comes to what bands/artists are doing when the festival season comes round.

Plus, with Reading and Leeds trouncing Download in ticket sales, who can blame them if they wanna go in a different direction to what was Monsters of Rock. Okay, I wish I was a little older to have gone to Monsters of Rock BUT times are changing. You either like it or lump it or failing these 2 options, put your hands in your pocket, put on your own festival and prove them wrong.

Personally, I have no issues if they ask The Prodigy to headline or ask Dizzee Rascal back, it might not be what “fits” in with the festival but at least they have the balls to come and do it and try and get a new audience.

Mm 150 notes?

I can see five or six great stadium gigs around the country for that amount of dough!

Download will have to turn great again for me to splash any kind of ballpark of that cash!!

Can`t see it happening :(

Seanicus

I’m too young to have gone to any of the amazing Monsters of Rock festivals, but i wish we could have them….

Monsters of Rock was just that…

I have no idea what the hell Download is supposed to be, or why the y insist on making it worse every year…

Take note from Graspop.

Every year they find more and more ways to top the last, and it seems to get bigger and bigger.

Or is now the time for Bloodstock to emerge as the primary place for Metalheads?

I say let the arseholes that flood the world with shite music have Download… We’ll take Bloodstock.

And Hammerfest….

And Defenders of the Faith….

wtf. get the prodigy out, no fukin way, metallica yeah but no to rhcp and muse fuk no. this is rubbish news

get proper bands assholes :(

fucking red hot chili peppers???????? thats gonna suck.
i like muse, but theyre arent the right band to headline download.
it should be:
metallica
AC/DC
slipknot

they have all released major albums this year. i wouldnt mind seeing bullet headline either since they are my favourie band. but i know that wont happen this year, maybe next year though they could do it.

Seanicus

What is peoples problems with RHCP and Muse?

Surely when you put them against the crapfest we had last year, they’re more than acceptable.

Not to mention that Metallica haven’t produced a single “great” album since the S/T.

Sure, other albums have had good songs on them, but a fully Great album? I think not.

The Joms: “I dunno why you all are whinging over this. LiveNation have said they will rotate the headliners at Download. It all comes to what bands/artists are doing when the festival season comes round.”

That’s cool mate, I have no problem with The Prodigy headlining a festival BUT JUST NOT THIS ONE!! I’ll go to Reading if I want to see them play, I don’t want to see them at Donington. It’s just not right. And if that makes me blinkered and narrow minded then that’s just hunky dory with me.

I remember when The Prodigy first started getting big with that “Firestarter” thing and a certain once-brilliant magazine was really trying to push them down the metal community’s throat, failing to realize that we just weren’t interested. We were being told that this was the future of heavy music and we should all climb aboard the bandwagon or get left behind. Well, it obvious how that all went, hey??

Fuck The Prodigy, fuck LiveNation.

“rumours also continue to swill about a July festival set to take place at Knebworth featuring Metallica, Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers as headliners.”

It doesn’t even say anything about Muse or RHCP playing/headlining download! Read it!

Ive heard ACDC and Rammstein … again. I won’t believe that for a second, considering it’s been the same rumours for the last 3 years. I’d imagine Slipknot would be high up on the bill next year. MSI will probably play too.

tommy dirtyarse

prodigy?????? they are a damn dance act, send em to a dance festival or a night club somewhere. ac/dc metallica slipknot would be the NUTS of a line up, these are the sort of bands we want to see at a festival. otherwise we all may as well go to glastonbury. F*** that!!!!!

to be honest, unless they pull out a lineup like 2006 (minus the sunday night main stage comedy act) i think ill bite the bullet and put my extra notes on a plane ticket to belgium. i cant see the ‘knot playing a fest here this year unless its reading, and i rekon graspop has more chance of getting the likes of acdc or metallica.

the nameless heretic

to be honest i think prodigy are really shite for a fest like this i mean isnt download ment to be a metal fest for fuck sakes.
id like to see
slipknot, machine head, mudvayne (playing old stuff l.d. 50 album) playing slipknot headlining the main stage of course
i saw slipknot and machine head a couple of weeks ago and if i had the money id follow the tour they play amazing live
i was gunna see metallica but tickets sold out so it wud be gud if they headline.
why did KoRn hav to split up theyd be gud as headliners,
downloads gettin worse : (

Mel_In_The_Box

MFH? That’s me…lol (my initials :p) Also Machine Head are one of my fave bands so yeah, they can come back any day :D

ffs, you guys chill out! haha! ok they aint metal, but the prodigy have played there before and were very well recieved! they have a full band live, and make good tunes. fair enough, they should probably not headline, but tbh, its better than mcr or some shite like that! also, it probably will be slipknot acdc and tallica cus they are the 3 biggest metal/rock albums this year past year and that tends to swing the promoters. remember when system sold some albums and headlined?case of good band, but not good enough to headline this, but album sales helped them get there! my point exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!

It says nothing about them headlining :S Dunno why your all freaking out.

Wots going on? This is the line-up:
Slayer, Machine Head, Down (compromise), Bullet for My Valentine for the kiddies, Arch Enemy, some Vikings- Metallica-but not fussed ‘cos seeing them in March anyway. Why not?

Put 36 CF on a mainstage spot.

I tell you now they would give such a much more amazing headline show than most of these crap suggestions of bands that arent even metal…

Where’s the true fucking spirit of Download gone these past few years??

Bring back MfH CoB and some seriously metal shit.

Also we wanna see RATM :D please?? haha

Ian Carnell

After many years of attending Download I was truly pissed off big time last year with the ultimate crap headliners and even crappier site lay out. I have voted with my feet – my tix 4 Waken arrived this morning – yea. What value at only 130 Eur per tix and only £62 on the ferry return. Sorry suckers all tix now sold out – see you there in 2010!!!!

Luke anstee

i Hate muse, worst band of all time
love metallica, best band of all time,

think ill give it a miss, seeing metallica feb anyways.

Ok i prob am the only one who will say this but i dont care, Red Hot Chilli Peppers would go down a storm at download. Heaven and hell on friday nite, RHCP on sat nite, Metallica on sunday nite. that would be a hell of a line up and fully worth 150 notes. last year the offspring on sat lostmonkies on sunday? wot the fook was that all about? it will be much beter this year anyways. it crnt get any worse anyways. i am lookin forward to this year anyways. rock on \,,/

[...] The first rumour involved one of Britains biggest bands being heavily linked to a set at this year’s festival. Bullet For My Valentine? Muse? Come inside and check it out. [...]

download has always been shit, muse shouldn’t lower themselves to an emo festival, they’re poor live anyway. And RHCP are the worst band i’ve ever seen!
Why do ‘metalheads’ take themselves so seriously?
Your music is poor and an absolute joke. . . Peace.

As I predicted Heaven and Hell have confirmed for the Friday and the other strong rumour is that Motley Crue will headline one of the other days.like them or not at least they have a back catelogue of more than one album and are not rap or dance shite. The other headline is up for grabs but Machine Head would do a good job and are a lot more respected than BFMV. I believe this is judgement time for Download and it has to listen to the metal community for it to survive. Sometimes you have to look at the past to continue in the future(Monsters of Rock Festival is a good blueprint).

erick metal

c’monnnn i dont like this fu*king download ! !
Slipknot should be in this download, they have all hope is gone and and it’s the ten year anniversary of Slipknot (the first album), slipknot is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times much better than prodigy and red hot shit peppers,
it should be:
lamb of god, slipknot and the end metallica

Deadpool

meh, I’m into it but i still think download is getting less heavy every year
the download guys should just get roadrunner united to play a three day gig … at gunpoint if need be :]

LEMMY'S WART

Download gets worse every year,The Prodigy are a dance band & should piss off back to Essex,DOWNLOAD IS A ROCK FESTIVAL

Muse – Friday
Guns N’ Roses – Saturday
Metallica – Sunday

Get Buckethead and Slipknot in there. Easy!

[...] other Download rumours, The Prodigy have been a name thrown around, Lamb Of God have semi self-confirmed while Heaven and Hell have [...]
