U2′s ‘Elevation’ beat Aerosmith’s ‘Jaded’ in Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal category, U2′s ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’ pipped Aerosmith’s ‘Just Push Play’ and Linkin Park’s ‘Hybrid Theory’ at the post to scoop Best Rock Album and Godsmack’s ‘Vampires’ lost out on Best Rock Instrumental Performance to Jeff Beck.
In the dead cert categories, Tool beat Black Sabbath, Slayer, Slipknot and System Of A Down when ‘Schism’ clocked up Best Metal Performance, whilst Linkin Park’s ‘Crawling’ beat POD’s ‘Alive’ and Alien Ant Farm’s cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Last, and by no means least, the sound track to Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor’s fave movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, clocked up Album of the Year.
