It was John Carpenter’s classic 1978 masterpiece Halloween that first introduced us to the original slasher icon. Hitchcock’s Psycho might have laid down the gauntlet 18 years earlier, but it was Carpenter who kickstarted the slasher-flick buzz of the 1980s. Myers is the epitome of pure, faceless evil – and he was given a much-needed new lease of life by a certain Rob Zombie for that rarest of rarities, a remake that’s actually quite good, in 2007.
