Metal Hammer goes back to December 2005 to revisit our Avenged Sevenfold ‘Sin City’ shoot.

Talking about the concept behind the shoot, Metal Hammer’s Art Editor James Isaacs says: “At the time of this cover shoot for A7X, the Frank Miller film ‘Sin City’ was flying high around the world and it was the poster from the movie that inspired us to recreate that shot, using Avenged as our anti-heroes. We couldn’t get the band to the UK so we flew snapper John McMurtrie to Atlanta and told him to round up some guns and baseball bats…as you do. Luckily, the band had their own! He used the same lighting and composition from the film and even shot the buildings for the background. It was then given to our Photoshop mentalist Chris Stocker who added the rain and did the final tweaks.”

“We wanted to show A7X as a gang, the dangerous new guys on the scene. I think we got it just right, as it’s still probably the most popular and talked about Metal Hammer cover of the past 10 years!”
