Iron Maiden Guitarist Talks Primal Rock Rebellion
Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith has spoken to Hammer about his ongoing project with SikTh frontman Mikee Goodman, Primal Rock Rebellion, and their new album Awoken Broken!
We were all pretty stunned when we learned that Iron Maiden guitarist and total legend Adrian Smith had hooked up with awesomely talented former SikTh vocalist Mikee Goodman for a brand new project, and Adrian has shed some more light on how this amazing collaboration came together.
“I don’t want people to get the wrong idea and think that I’m setting up a rival band,” says the iconic axeman. “That’s just not the case. It’s just a joint project. We’ve actually been writing songs for six years, so it’s been a bit on-and-off – just during downtime between tours and things like that.”
Adrian also admits that it was quite unlike him to approach a man like our Mikee for this kind of collaboration.
“It’s pretty forward for me,” he admits. “I’m pretty laid back. But, I’d seen Mike on stage and thought he was quite impressive and then, so I whacked down some ideas and sent him them, and what he came down with was really interesting and fresh.”
“It’s cool, because we’ve been able to write in a different way,” adds Mikee. “Lyrically, I’ve been able to write over a longer period and work on them more.”
We’ve heard the Awoken Broken album, and it’s actually ace, so you should definitely check it out. It’s available now via Spinefarm.
