Iron Maiden Writing New Material
Janick Gers confirm that Iron Maiden will be writing the follow up to ‘A Matter Of Life And Death’ very soon indeed.
In an interview with the BBC at last week’s Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards, Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers confirmed that the band will be working on new material in France in the very near future.
“We’re going to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff,” confirmed Gers. “The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you’re not valid — you become a parody.”
Iron Maiden are expected to release a new album in 2010. Any chance of a festival performance, lads?

Really hope the next album features shorter, more basic songs as I thought AMOLAD, while musically brilliant, took the prog thing a little too far and was pretty heavy going. I think the time is right for maiden to rlease a more radio friendly album and truly achieve the recognition they deserve before they retire.
Agree. As much as I liked AMOLAD, it was hard going to play the whole album in one go, and it’s always been one of Maiden’s strengths to to have albums that flow all the way through, rather than one or two standout songs. Personally, I preferred the more varied and, dare I say it, theatrical approach like on Dance of Death, where the album touched base with most of their trademarks rather than just the proggy stuff. Still, they did it, and it was good, but maybe try and mix it up a bit next time.
hey rambodude, when you said they should make something radio friendly i almost vomitted in disgust.
Iron Maiden should keep doing what they have been doing cos theyre awesome at it.
Who cares if they don’t have the recognition of mainstream people or not.. they suck.
Up the Irons, can’t wait for the new stuff lml
Also agree, but to be honest, I see more of the same sort of thing – mid-paced, 4 minute single followed by a bunch of 7-minuters. Some of the ones of AMOLAD were also a bit formulaic in that they always felt the need to repeat the tune of the earlier “quiet bit” at the end of the song.
maiden have never been a radio band and shouldn’t start now, steve(harris) wouldn’t have it any other way
amolad was too long for my liking but still a bloody good album,
Never mention retirement.
maiden, retire! dont speak of such absurdities!
AMOLAD is my most played iron maiden album ha ha i love the prgier stuff , but hey is theres a good gallop and some awesome twin axe leads im gonna love it
YES COME ON MAIDEN
To be honest they are the best band ever formed
you dont see maiden fans aruging about music or albums or producers etc
unlike megadeth , metallica arugments and metallica producers and so on…
most loyal fans in the world
most deserved for the best band in the world
( megadeth and metallica are awesome btw just do not compared to THESE GODS!!!)
every album is a masterpeice, REALLY CANNOT WAIT
Looking forward to a new album and the tour that will go with it.
Up the Irons
I dont think the next album is gonna be the same as AMLOAD, most of the maiden albums differ from the album that came before it, cant wait to see what they are going to do this time. up the irons.
@ EDDIE
top man, couldnt agree more mate
I agree with eddie something more radio friendly fuck that, its not what maiden are about its about appeasing the fans you’ve got maybe you will convert people to maiden fans by going radio friendly but they would lose a huge fan base in doing so.
Maiden radio friendly???? Not a chance in hell!! Why after all the success these guys have had would they need to care about bulls**t radio stations playing their songs.Maiden do what Maiden do because it works, anyone who was at Twickenham would of seen the amount of youngsters banging away to stuff that was out before they were even born, did they here it on the radio??? I think not.
Maiden kick ass and I for one look forward to their new album with bated breath.
the good thing about maiden is they will release the album they want to release, regardless of the styles and trends maiden just do their own thing, thats what makes them so great.i love all the stuff since bruce and adrian rejoined and cant wait for the next album.long live maiden
OH MY GOD
THAT IS EPIC \m/
Can’t wait to hear the new stuff lads! Looking forward to seeing ye in a big field somewhere next summer! \m/ UP THE IRONS!!! \m/
EDDIE is spot on – Maiden will never been a radio friendly band, theyve just managed to do a few songs here and there that by coincidence have got somewhere in the charts, like Rainmaker which hit No.5, Can I Play With Madness which got to No.3 and Bring Your Daughter…to the Slaughter which got to No.1
Personally, I cannot wait for the new album, because whether it’s in the same vein of AMOLAD or not, it’ll absolutely slay – it’s Maiden, for God’s sake! The tour will be awesome too. UP THE IRONS!
NEW MAIDEN WOOO! UP THE MOTHER FUCKING IRONS!
YES!
Awesome news!
Keep us posted HAMMER!
cant fuckin wait new album will be awesome as usual plus new album means new tour and new merch 2010 is gonna be an expensive year!!!
rambodude….Maiden have been going over 30yrs (30yrs next yr since debut album) and they haven’t sold out yet. WHY on what’s being billed as potentially their final album, would they sell out? They’re not KISS!
Maiden take pride in their work and the fact that they play the music they want to, and that they’ve got to the top the hard way, not like Miley Cyrus n all tht pop bo**ocks who get famous cos of who their daddy is, and people respect them for that.
UP THE IRONS!!!
YES YES YES YES YES
Buzzing now! I loved AMOLAD so i can only expect good stuff from Iron Maiden here. Now maybe play Download or Sonisphere Maiden?
UP THE IRONS!
Wow I wonder if it will sound exactly like every other album…
as long as it results in a tour (maybe even a sonisphere apperance) i don’t care from what i’ve heard they only made one crap album which was ironically called the X factor.
even maiden’s ‘lesser’ albums (the ones without adrian smith i just realised) are still much better than 90% of the turd out there. i personally think maiden have been better than ever since they expanded to a 6 piece. in fact isn’t it the 10th anniversary of this current lineup? i’d love them to do a tour made up of mostly the last few albums as well as the new one, with a few classics thrown in of course!
This is great news. I knew that it was only a matter of time before they started to put together a new album!!
Should be excellent and I look forward to seeing them live again!!
i agree with mark..they woudld completely alienate the fans if they did radio friendly music…if it ain’t broke then leave it the fuck alone!!!
WOOHOO FUCK YH,BEEAN WAITING FOR 3 YEARS FOR THIS,CAN’T.FUCKING.WAIT >:)
Iron Maiden for president…..of the world!!!!
Personally I didn’t find AMOLAD particularly inspiring. Too many long, mid paced songs with weak poppy intros for my liking. I hope they return to a more traditional heavy sound like their earlier albums. Unfortunately I doubt this will happen.
I think I worded my opening post badly and some of you have misunderstood me. I didn’t mean Maiden should sell out and write Def Leppard or Kiss style tunes, but rather something in a similar vein to the shorter songs on Somewhere In Time or Seventh Son. I should point out that I’ve been a Maiden fan for over 17 years, own all their albums and have seen them 12 times. I can talk Maiden with anyone on this board.
UP THE IRONS, AWESOME!!!
AMOLAD was the best album of 2006 by far, but I was a little turned off by the extreme focus on the prog element.
Maiden were best when they stuck with single-tempo’d songs like the old mid 80’s Maiden. I would kill for another Powerslave of Somewhere In Time. Heavy metal has reached its pinnacle these past couple of years, lets hope Maiden does so themselves
Who gives a damn what we think, they’re going to make a damn good album regardless. They’re Iron Maiden! (aka the best band ever)
an arena tour and festival appearence would be most welcome.maiden rule!
I wonder if rambodude is on the IMOC then, as surely he’d know just how badly an idea like thyat would go down.
AMOLAD was a complete masterpiece from start to finish, and the two preceding it were also like it, though less so. BNW started it off, DoD brought more of it in, and thenAMOLAD was the complete article. Another album in the same vein would be brilliant, and to the people saying how much they need shorter more mainstream songs on the next album, just look at The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg. Epically good, and if not for regulations, would have been a single that charted.
Im still waiting for a bruce solo tour/gig.
Still waiting bruce..
Still waiting…
UP THE FUCKING IRONS!
Maiden NEED to do Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh if they do an Arena tour. Can’t wait for the new Album and Tour.
They are THE GREATEST BAND in the World and I hope they never retire.
The new Album WILL be AWESOME, it’s MAIDEN for God’s sake!!!
UP THE IRONS.
a festival well you got sonisphere coming up that would rock
MAIDEN rule. MAIDEN have always ruled, and will continue to rule. The new album will slay all that comes in it’s way. Everyone should just get ready to bang their heads when the new stuff appears. Maiden were the flag barers’ for NWOBHM and are still leading the charge. Because of them and others from back in the day, we have seen the NWOTM. Thrash is back (thank the gods), but MAIDEN have been constant like the Northern Star that guides the Ancient Mariner. MAIDEN don’t have to turn the clock back to bring their fans back on board because they didn’t stay true to themselves, their music or their fans. They will blow everyone away, they always do. Stand together and never waver. Wait to you see the whites of their eyes and then rush the stage and bang thy head. UP THE IRONS!
P.S. An arena tour of the whole UK is well overdue. IT should be done like it was in ‘90-’91. Stadium and festival tours are fine, but 1 show for the whole of the UK is not what the loyal MAIDEN fans deserve.
True that, maiden should come to Screamfest in Australia! The only bands appearing that have any talent are sonata arctica, destroyer 666 and black majesty, it would be hectic if they came! Up The Irons!
I really hope their new album takes some influence from Seventh Son. Up the Irons!
