‘Iron Maiden: Flight 666′ is released worldwide on official Iron Maiden Day – April 21st.

Metal Hammer: What did you think about the film crew?

Janick Gers: “I wasn’t really very happy about it. To me, I don’t want to be a film star. Bands should have a bit of mystery about them and I think if you go in with cameras and see how everything works, I think a lot of that is better left unsaid, because once you demystify it it’s not as interesting. So I wasn’t really up for it. I kept my head down and kept as much out of the way as I could. The guys were commendable and they came in and tried not to get in everybody’s way. They tried to film it as they saw it, which is great, but I think if you see too much it takes away from the magic.”

Metal Hammer: You’re in it the least…

Janick: “I just don’t want to be in the pictures! If I wanted to do that, I’d be an actor. But I’ll do what needs to be done. My thing is that I just want to play music.”

Metal Hammer: The film’s about the fans as much as the band too.

Janick: “That’s great. That was commendable. If there was one part of the film I loved, there’s a scene, the end bit, with all the punters doing the dances. I loved that. I just want to play music and hope that people enjoy it. I don’t want to read too much into it, I just hope people enjoy themselves. Sometimes you write a song and it means something different to the people that hear it than it means to you. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re writing about!”
