Kill II This: “Fuck All Tha Hayders!”
“After a very turbulent few months last year we finally got back on our feet in November when Phill joined the band,” explains Steve. “We’d agonised over whether or not we could continue after Matt left, it just seemed like the final indignity after the record company decision. We had replaced Caroline, we had dragged ourselves out with Fear Factory and to several festivals in Europe with no label support, we had tried our best to keep hope that things would be better next album around. On top of it all it seemed that the knives were out for us, we got the feeling there was more to our fall from grace than met the eye if you know what I mean? And then Matt quit, simply because he couldn’t stand any more shit and intrigue. We sat down quietly for a couple of weeks and waited for things to settle down before we made any decisions as to our future. We came to the conclusion that we had too much to throw away. We had written some great new material for the next album and Pete (original KIIT bassist) was a great inspiration and source of energy when we needed it. The three of us had done some great things together despite all the odds, so we thought ‘fuck ‘em all’. This business has a way of grinding people out of existence but we were unwilling to lie down.
“So, as is well known we found Phill, we went out with Devin Thownsend and had a great time. We were opening up in venues we had headlined and filled in our own right only a few months previously but we didn’t care, it was great to be around those guys, they are an inspiration. We did all the stuff people said we would never do again. And the reason is simple, we are driven by our music, we don’t give two fucks for the ‘scene’ that we are supposed to be ‘in’ or ‘out’ of because it’s a very fragile existence if that is all you have as a band. On top of it all we got ourselves into a rehearsal room and wrote a new album together. We were reading that we have little chance of putting it together even while we were recording drum tracks. We are already well on our way towards completion, we have nobody breathing down our necks and it is being done our way. It will come out pure and simple.
“Expect the new Kill II This album , MASS. DOWN. SIN. DRONE out before the summer. We are living on a mixed diet of Cave In, Opeth, Soilent Green, Dimmu Borgir and League of Gentlemen. Mark is also studying for a degree in Psychology. All these things are reflected in the new sounds. Song titles include ‘Pine Surround’, ‘Ketamine Christ’ and ‘Gender Re-assignment’. The songs break new ground for Kill II This. We are very, very pleased with the material and the feeling between us as people is strong. To anyone waiting for it we thank you for your patience and support. To anyone taking pleasure in having a little dig because you think we are finished, good, I’m happy for you. Enjoy yourself while you can, just remember that life is a very changeable thing. We are the living proof.”
