King Compares New Slayer To ‘Seasons…’
Kerry King has spoken out about the forthcoming album from the thrash metal titans!
Kerry King has spoken to Blabbermouth about what we can expect from the forthcoming album from Slayer.
“I think this one, when it’s all said and done, will be compared to ‘Seasons In The Abyss’ ,” says King. ” I think ‘Seasons’ was a little bit of everything, as far as Slayer goes. I think this one has a little bit of everything — more so than anything we’ve done since ‘Seasons’. So I would imagine people are gonna compare it to that one.”
On Greg Fidelman being a somewhat odd choice for a producer considering that a lot of fans seem to blame him for the distorted sound on Metallica’s “Death Magnetic” album:
Kerry: “I would never do that because — no offense to him or Metallica — but it’s not Greg’s fault for the last 15 years of Metallica. I think he made a decent record with them. I think ‘Death Magnetic’ is pretty cool. I mean, It’s not the glory of the ’80s, but it’s better than ‘St. Anger’, you know what I mean?! You’re dealing with hard-headed dudes. We’re the same way. When you’re in the business for as long as us and them [Metallica] are, you don’t always [listen to] everybody’s opinion; you’ve kind of got your own opinion. I blame everybody, not just him. [Laughs]”

Slayer’s as-yet untitled new album is expected to surface in the late part of this Summer. The band will be co-headliners of this summer’s Rockstar Mayhem festival across the US with Marilyn Manson.

Slayer haven’t released a good album since Seasons. Kerry King has spent way too much time criticizing Metallica when he should have been concentrating on writing some good songs with Jeff Hanneman. I’m hoping for a return to form this time but am not hopeful.

Slayer not released a good album since Seasons? Divine Intervention was criminally underrated. Christ Illusion was a true return to form. The ones inbetween were a bit hit and miss, but you can’t say they ain’t put out a decent album for nearly 20 years, especially when most of what they do still puts the millions of bands they inspired to shame.
Anyways, the new album should be even better if its anything like Seasons.

If Kerry’s comparing this album to Seasons in the Abyss then ive got pretty high hopes for this one, I dont think it will be as good as Seasons though because that albums just untouchable imo.
But ive noticed every Kerry King interview i read somehow someway Metallica always crops into it…
Christ Illusion was alright but it definitly wasnt a true return to form. A true return to form would be actual thrash metal like on hell awaits not half thrash/ groove with shit vocals on christ illusion.

How can you say “Seasons in the Abyss” was theirs last “good” record!!! I ear Slayer for quite some time and in my opinion, “God Hates All” (and others) are albuns (even more old) that realy made a impact in “my” audition of Metal!!! How can we forget the evolution that Metal Made in the past 30 years!!! Without same of their albuns we weren’t able to define that much what is good from what it’s Bad in metal nowdays!! yep, but “Seasons” is without a doubt, one of the best metal albuns evermade!!!

‘Seasons’ was a great album but I personally thought the production was a bit thin. ‘God Hates Us All’ is the only album post-Seasons that had more than two songs on it that could be called excellent. ‘Christ Illusion’ and ‘Diabolos in Musica’ were both treading water and ‘Divine Intervention’ was just good but not great. Slayer are a fucking excellent band but they seem to have rested on their laurels recently so I hope the new album will be something special – I don’t want them to turn into the Status Quo of Thrash Metal.
Is it just me, or is CD release of Seasons in the Abyss the quietest album in existence? Anyone else notice that?

Slayer (like Metallcia) have yet to release an true ‘classic’ album since the early 90s but they HAVE(like Metallica) released some damn fine albums with some excellent songs on them. Have some faith all ye Metallians.
I think people are missing the point – Slayer aren’t getting a slagging. It’s just that their last three studio albums haven’t heralded anything worthy of sheer greatness. An under-par Slayer album still beats the crap out of anything else around. Just because someone doesn’t like one album compared to another doesn’t make them a Fightstar fan. Oh yes, Vazzer, Slayer are not the Staus Quo of thrash – yet. I still believe that Slayer could produce another classic that sets the standard. I compared them to the Quo as the Quo are really a ‘greatest hits’ band, as no one really cares about new stuff. Not true of Slayer, methinks.
Kerry doesn’t need to flatter metallica by saying they are “hard-headed dudes”. Even if they made a metal album this time (what is good for all heavy metal fans) they’re still a sell-out vain whores.
