Lars Ulrich Admits ‘Some Kind Of Monster’ Was A Bad Idea

Lars Ulrich has now said that, in retrospect, the ‘Some Kind Of Monster’ movie was a “stupid idea”. Fuck…fuck…FUCK!
Lars Ulrich has spoken to the NME about how Metallica’s ‘Some Kind Of Monster’ may not have been the best idea after all.
“Every time I see Noel Gallagher he quotes lines from that movie back to me,” he said. “That thing has taken on a life of its own. I had to live that shit for three fucking years! The whole thing was a mindfuck.”
“I am aware a lot of other musicians seem to have lived a lot of those moments. They weren’t necessarily stupid enough to film them like we were and share them with the rest of the world.”

I always thought the moment when James slams the studio door would have been really cool if it had a soft close hinge, and it farted gently shut!
HAHA!! Nice one Big Dog!!
“Every time I see Noel Gallagher…”
“I see Noel Gallagher…”
“Noel Gallagher…”
Oh dear, oh dear.
That was the best moment Big Dog i like the bit just before when James walked away and Kirk slapped his own head you couldnt have scripted it better.
I thought SKOM actually enhanced the bands street cred and showed them as real faliable people, not super heroes some fans think they are.Lars may feel like he does but now but he might understand a little bit more how Dave Mustaine feels when fans shout out “METALLICA” to him…lol
Maybe it would be cooler if they could still play their instruments well.
James: I feel I have no input in the band!
Kirk: Now you know how I’ve felt for the last 15 years!
Priceless
i like how he refrences get him to greek with mindfuck haha.
I wonder how Metallica would cope had they not made the Black album?
would they be in the same minor league as Testament, overkill, etc…
Naw Lars St whatever its called was a bad idea
“Every time I see Noel Gallagher he quotes lines from that movie back to me,” he said”
Hahahahaah. Sellout fucks.
i loved that film it showed their human side
and even though i was warned it would make me hate metallica; it just helped me relate to them and has prepared me for the life of being in a heavy metal band
it also had some really funny moments like the driving school song
i really enjoyed seeing how an album is made and after seeing it, it made me wish their other albums had DVDs behind them so i could see how they came up with all their other albums
I love St. Anger
I Love all their albums
I love Metallica
I Always will
\m/
Well said Moshtank!! \m/
It actually made me feel able to relate to the band as more emotional humans that play kick ass music rather than stone hearted metal gods, its a good thing
\\m//,
I believe that SKOM served it’s purpose!!
@ adrian blade seeing as metallica were already selling millions and headlining arenas long before the black album, they would’ve still been much bigger than any other thrash band. however if they’d continued playing thrash then maybe they would’ve suffered a mid 90s lull like most metal bands did.
i thought some kind of monster was funny for all the wrong reasons, but still a good watch and as others have said, it shows metallica are human after all
I love that film, its hugely entertaining to watch, it makes you identify with the band on a human level and it makes you understand St Anger better.
@ Conrad. you must be insane if you think Metallic can’t play their instrument well any more. James is still one of the best Rhythm guitar players in the world. He could fart and it would be better than most Riffs out there today and kirk and rob are amazing players with a lot of talent. Lars is good drummer he holds the beat well and he brings a lot to the band.
That is Metallica not metallic.
I may not be as qualified to give an opinion as Lars, but I absolutely loved that movie. Not only was an incredibly well made documentary, it also gave us an inside look at metal’s biggest band going through one of their most turbulent times. It also made me understand why they and how St-Anger came to be. It was a very touching, brave powerful move on Metallica’s part, and it remains still one of my favourite movies ever.
i felt embarrassed watching SKOM. a heavy metal band having therapy sessions and talking about their feelings? get the fuck out. they’ll never have the same respect in my eyes.
FAH Q Thats a bit stupid. As amazing as they are Metallica are only human, not super powered mega gods. You must be one those metal fans who listens to the music but couldnt give two shits about a bands troubling times and would scorn them for their humanity. Grow up.
I thought Skom was a brave move considering it’s content, it’s very candid and honest and you can’t ask anymore from a fly on the wall rockcumentry.Since 1986 i’ve seen them 26 times and yes they have changed in 24 years i’ve been into them. They are still devastatlying good live after 29 years on stage thats a good boast for any band ( if they last that long )……….I’m with Moshtank on this one Tallica 4 life “shoot me again i ain’t dead yet”.
Agree with Moshtank!
Like others I thought that SKOM was one of the few decisions that Metallica made *correctly* since screwing up their relationship with Jason because he simply wanted to do an outside project in the band’s “off-time”, and Lars’ hindsight decision that it was a “bad idea” because of what Noel Gallagher’s says to him (WTF?!? I mean seriously, you’re going to complain that that was a bad artistic move based on what Noel fuckin’ Gallagher says to you?) removes the small amount of respect I had regained in them for making the film and showing the band “warts ‘n all” and that things weren’t always “strong as metal” that the band and their PR machine had always led us to believe.
“Load”/”ReLoad”… forcing Jason out of the band… the idiotic and illogical Napster stance that cost them both fans and respect within the music industry… the Production issues on “St. Anger” that rival the lack of bass on “…An Justice For All”… and now this: Lars, STFU and let your Public Relations people make ALL of your public statements from now on.
I wouldn’t allow Noel Gallagher within 100 ft of me.
Also, Metallica were top 10 multi-platinum stars before “Smell The Glove” was released.
James: I feel I have no input in the band!
Kirk: Now you know how I’ve felt for the last 15 years!
Then they ignore him! Watched this movie the other night and the thing that really lost it for me was the whole business about Lars selling the painting for $5m.
What’s Lars going on about?
