Lars Ulrich Speaks On ‘Big Four’ Tour
Lars tells all about the origins of the ‘big four’ idea.
In an interview with The X radio station in Ohio, the Metallica drummer said: “I think that that’s a story that definitely has gotten its own legs recently. I can trace it back to a night in London in, I think it was in March (2009), where a bunch of us were sitting around way later than we should have been sitting around a bunch of very heavily red wine-induced conversations… It was right before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and we were all very nostalgic. And the idea of doing that at some point came up in that conversation.
“I think it would be a super-fun thing to do. It’s something that I would definitely support. It’s something that I would love to encourage. It’s something I love to be very proactive in putting together. But right now it’s not something that really left that party; it’s not something that’s like hush-hush being worked on behind the scenes or anything like that.
“I read some of those Internet sites myself once in a while, and it’s not something that’s going down, but it’s something that I would be totally for at some point if it could happen. And we would love to be a part of that at any level possible.”
Remember where you heard it first, Mr Ulrich.
Kerry King told us that a ‘big four’ tour was a possibility for next summer, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recently spoke out about the rumours on the tour and now Robert Trujillo has confirmed that Metallica are in talks to get a ‘big four’ tour together for next year. You can also check out the new Megadeth video for their bad-ass track, ‘Headcrusher’.
In this month’s revealing Metal Hammer cover story, Dave Mustaine explained to Metal Hammer the reasons behind his decision to not be present for Metallica’s induction into the Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame, Megadeth’s standing in the pantheon of metal, the story behind their awesome new opus ‘Endgame’ and the future of the band.

Download should have the big 4 as there 4 closing bands on the sunday with extra long sets. That would be epic.
This HAS to happen!!
Good luck sorting out the playing order though
Anthrax should only do the tour if John Bush gets his arse in gear and rejoin them officially and release Worship Music like it should sound.
Yeah gotta agree with EdSW here.
It’s been said before that the sheer number of egos between these four bands is very likely to hamper this tour from happening surely.
I mean if it’s rotating headliner then fair play, but when was the last time – bar festivals- that any of these bands played BEFORE another band?
I agree with what you guys are saying, there are indeed some strong egos to be reckoned with here, but this is potentially the biggest thing to have ever happened since the Clash Of The Titans. I cried at the thought of this happening. It’ll change the lives of every true metal head and head banger alive, and possibly destroy every band ou there that is based on the metal image rather than good music. And besides that, Imagine the next time someone goes on about how world-altering woodstock was and you can just say “PFFT!!! I saw the big four tour, MOTHER FUCKER!” THIS MUST HAPPEN. THIS WILL HAPPEN. KEEP THE FAITH STRONG BROTHERS!!!!
metallica 1st
anthrax (with bush) 2nd
slayer 3rd
megadeth 4th
that is the way i see the line up. But dave is a prick it will never happen.
I think it will happen, I could see the last 3 bands having the same length set with Metallica obviously headlining..
Well Joel, Slayer and Megadeth have just done a tour of alternating headliner so both of them have and Megadeth played before Judas Preist on their tour. Plus I think Anthrax probably recognise that they are the smallest of the bands so it might not be such an issue.
metallica 1
slayer 2
megadeth 3
anthrax 4
Metallica (im thinking Mustaine joining with them for 4 horseman and seek + destroy as a set closer would be fucking great)
Megadeth
Slayeraghhhh
Anthrax
Headliner: Metallica
Megadeth and Slayer rotate as second and third
Anthrax fourth
Testament opens
if they did go on tour tickets’d me r8 hard 2 get
i’d kill for tickets
I think I agree with Rob, Metallica (sadly) must headline, because otherwise this ain’t happening. Slayer & Megadeth alternating would be cool too, especially if they both had the same amount of time, and Anthrax Opening because they’re the smallest of the ‘Big 4′, having sold less albums and not done anything recently, the vocalist problems haven’t helped them
No testament though, its supposed to be a ‘Big 4 Tour’.
I’ll believe it when I’m walking through the doors of the venue. Actually, I’ll believe it more when I’m walking out of the doors AFTER the gig has happened. This will never be, people shouldn’t be getting excited over this.
the download idea about all 4 playing the Sunday would be amazing
I think if this does happen, (and it’s a BIG if) you’ll have to go to the States to see it
i belive a world thrash festival would be better. it would go for several years of these bands touring the world plus testament, kreator, machine head, exodus, mastodon and trivium. and other newer and older heavy metal bands.
this should’ve been done 20 years ago. all those bands are way past their prime.
Ooh i dunno *Fah Q*, Megadeth & Slayer are still releasing top class albums, Metallica can still sell out Anywhere, even on their albums
, its only Anthrax who are questionable, and while I love Anthrax if they can’t sort their shit out they don’t deserve to go on this tour. If it happens (please god let it happen)
should be
1. slayer
2. megadeth
3. anthrax
4. metalica(there shit and deferntly dont deserve to headline)
let’s hope that this show could hapend in south america
Josh – top idea – particularly the overlooked but face-shredding Exodus… but drop Trivium – no room for boyband wannabes….
They should get metallica and megadeth to play mechanix at the same time , hahaha.
That’d be awesome. But can lars still drum like that , heheh?
