Cramps frontman Lux Interior died yesterday (February 4) at a Glendale, California, hospital as the result of a pre-existing heart condition. He was 62.

The Cramps formed in 1976 and were part of the now legendary downtown New York punk scene. Their line-up shifted over the years but always included Lux – real name Erick Lee Purkhiser – and his wife, Poison Ivy.

The band’s rockabilly-infused punk has been credited as an influence by bands including The White Stripes and The Jon Sepncer Blues Explosion.

The Cramps released 14 albums over the course of their career, their latest being 2003’s Fiends Of Dope Island.

The band’s best-selling album was 1984’s Bad Music for Bad People.

All I wanted was one more tour so my seven year old daughter could see the best live band ever. No words for how sad this is.

When I heard the news, I was gob-smacked! That is too young to die, at 62.

Oh Hell. Now I’m really depressed. I don’t want to live in a Luxless world.
